A massive congratulations to our very own Bub Kelly, who has been recognised nationally in the Bunnings "Legend of the Tongs" competition, an incredible honour and so very well deserved!

Legend of the Tongs is a nationwide search launched by Bunnings to find, recognise and reward the local community legends who fire up the BBQ every weekend to raise much-needed funds for their clubs. And there is no one more deserving than Bub.

This recognition celebrates the enormous impact that volunteers like Bub have on grassroots footy and netball, and we couldn't be prouder to see her efforts acknowledged on a national stage.

Bub now goes into the running to be one of eight winners selected by public vote, with the prize being an all-expenses-paid trip for two to the 2026 Toyota AFL Grand Final. Keep your eyes peeled on our socials for the voting link coming soon!

From there, one overall winner will be crowned the "Legend of the Golden Tongs" and take home $25,000 in Bunnings products and materials for their local club.

Congratulations Bub, thank you for everything you do for our club.

Congratulations to Sar Sidebottom on her 150th game for the Avenel Football Netball Club tomorrow.

Sar is our current secretary, but over the years has been an outstanding club person, coach and player. In 2024, she was named our Club Person of the Year - recognition of the enormous contribution she has made to the club both on and off the court.

Having grown up around the Avenel Football Netball Club, Sar is a familiar face to so many people throughout the community. She has always been a fierce competitor, a terrific teammate and someone who represents the club with pride.

We thank Sar for everything she continues to do for the club and wish her all the very best as she celebrates her 150th game this weekend.

ROUND 5! 🔥

This week our football sides take on Lancaster, who have set the benchmark for the competition in the early stages of the season. It promises to be a huge challenge across the day, with our netball sides also looking forward to testing themselves against a strong Lancaster outfit. A grade will be looking to bounce back and our senior football team will be hoping to continue the winning form.

Under 15s footballers will take on Violet Town earlier in the morning.

This weekend also gives us the opportunity to celebrate some fantastic club milestones. Congratulations to:

Tim Dundon - 100 games
Chayse Thompson – 100 games
Sar Sidebottom – 150 games
Adi Thornberry – 100 games
Lily Boote – 100 games
Lily Fanning – 50 games

These milestones are a credit to the commitment, loyalty, and passion each player has shown for the club, and we thank them and their families for their continued contribution to the Avenel Football Netball Club.

The Cold Rock Caravan will be paying us a visit during the day🍦

On Saturday night, we’ll keep the celebrations going with our Beer Pong and iPod Shuffle function. We look forward to seeing everyone there for a great night after a big day of football and netball.

Tonight; dinner & drinks will be available at the club, before another edition of The Furci Show - Conspiracy Theory edition. Following that, team selection and then AFL on the TV from 8:10pm.

Come down and join us for a fun filled weekend at Vicstall Park and get around all of our footballers and netballers.
