We had some great feedback from someone from the Home Together community who used our advice heading into their appointment with the council's building department.

This is a very important stage of the building process - do it right and make sure you keep track of your consultation!

I had a lovely chat with Emma about building her studio come teenagers retreat in the rear of a property.

My first bit of advice to everyone: speak to the council building department first. Try to get everything in writing. If you find a property that you would like to extend but don't think it quite fits, speak to the council, sometimes there are dispensations, there are no silly questions.

Timber joists will give good sound reducing quality between floors.
