The unique stripes of zebras make them one of the animals most familiar to people, and here at Shammah it is no different. Zebras are united by their distinctive black and white striped coats. Their stripes come in different patterns, unique to each individual.

Here at Shammah we have a few new little furry inhabitants….Buffalo calves is born quite precocious, fully furred, eyes open and able to stand within minutes. Calves have no horns when newborn, but there are two horny circles on the head called "buttons" from which the horns will soon start to grow. It takes about 10 years for horns to reach full size, and for the boss to fully harden.

Sable are characterised by glossy black coats with white under parts and white facial markings. Cows and young are dark brown in colour. Both sexes have stiff black manes along the dorsal aspects of their necks. The shoulder height of bulls is 1.4 m, which weigh up to 270 Kg. Here are a few of Shammah Game Lodges' own Sables.
