Ellerman House ArtAngels is an annual charity art auction showcasing the best of SA art, food and wine for the benefit of The Click Foundation (www.clickfoundation.co.za). Top South African donate works that are auctioned at the event. As of March 2017, the events have raised over R12m for the Click Foundation's foundation phase online English literacy programme being implemented with over 27,000

primary school learners across South Africa. In 2017 we are taking the event overseas for the first time, starting in London in May 2017.

Erin Chaplin is drawn to the beauty of things that cannot last. Nature has long been her muse, particularly flowers and fruit, whose freshness inevitably gives way to decay. For Chaplin, still life offers a way of holding these fleeting subjects in paint, while her use of muted tones alongside unexpected, contrived colours resists making them feel too perfect or fixed.

In Buffey, Chaplin returns to oil on canvas, a medium through which her interest in nature, imperfection and transience has repeatedly taken form. Rather than assigning a story to the work, its place within her wider practice asks us to consider one of the tensions at the heart of her painting: the possibility of preserving something in an image even as the living world continues to change.

Blessing Ngobeni’s work refuses to look away. Through exaggerated figures, layered imagery and collage, he confronts political corruption, inequality and the weight of a past that continues to shape the present. His compositions can be brutal and absurd, yet beneath their intensity lies a remarkable sensitivity to line, image and colour.

In We Are Not Alone, Ngobeni brings this distinctive visual language onto paper. Fragments and figures gather within the composition, creating a work that rewards closer looking. Its title adds another layer: a reminder that experience, history and consequence are rarely ours alone.

A compelling work from an artist who continues to ask uncomfortable questions about the world we inherit and the one we choose to rebuild.

After another unforgettable year of ArtAngels, we’re reminded of why this gathering holds such meaning. Beyond the shimmering artworks, the inspiring bids, and the electric energy of the night, there’s a purpose that grounds it all: supporting Click Learning and the incredible work they do for young learners across South Africa.

Through the funds raised, Click Learning is able to equip children with essential reading skills, opening doors to confidence, opportunity, and a brighter future. Every artwork purchased and every paddle lifted becomes part of that story.
