The BMTF it is built upon the existing national medical capabilities in the West Balkan region. It is a multinational military medical unit composed of medical modules formed from contributions of nations: ALB, BIH, MKD, MNE, SRB and SVN.

A decade of partnership, commitment and shared purpose.

On 30 June 2026, the Balkan Medical Task Force marked its 10th Anniversary and held the official Hand Over–Take Over Ceremony of the BMTF Commander at Ilinden Barracks in Skopje.

The ceremony honoured the achievements of the outgoing leadership, welcomed the incoming Commander and reaffirmed the participating nations’ continued commitment to strengthening multinational cooperation, medical readiness and regional security.

As BMTF begins a new chapter, it remains firmly dedicated to its mission—united in service, prepared to respond and stronger together.

As part of the Army of the Republic of North Macedonia’s official presentation of defence capabilities acquired through the European Peace Facility (EPF), the Balkan Medical Task Force (BMTF) showcased selected assets of its deployable ROLE 2 Light Maneuver Field Hospital at Ilinden Barracks in Skopje. The display included several deployable hospital tents and a representative selection of modern medical equipment procured through the EPF support measure.

The Balkan Medical Task Force (BMTF) commemorated a historic milestone today by celebrating its 10th Anniversary and conducting the official Hand Over–Take Over (HOTO) Ceremony of the BMTF Commander and Framework Nation at the BMTF Standing Organization in Ilinden Barracks, Skopje.

The event was attended by the Chief of the General Staff of the Army of North Macedonia, Major General Saško Lafčiski, Deputy Minister of Defence of the Republic of North Macedonia, Mr. Admir Shabani, the Deputy Minister of Defence of the Republic of Albania, Ms. Pranvera Skana, ambassadors, defence attachés, Heads of Delegation, senior military officials, and representatives of the Kingdom of Norway, the United States of America, the European Peace Facility, Delegation of European Union in MKD, and the six BMTF participating nations.

BMTF Successfully Concludes Participation in Vigorous Warrior 2026

Estonia | June 2026

The Balkan Medical Task Force (BMTF) has successfully concluded its participation in Exercise Vigorous Warrior 2026, NATO’s largest multinational military medical exercise, hosted in Estonia.

Throughout the exercise, BMTF personnel demonstrated exceptional professionalism, adaptability, and medical expertise while operating in a demanding multinational environment. Working alongside allied and partner nations, the BMTF field hospital managed a continuous flow of simulated casualties, conducted medical treatment and evacuation procedures, and contributed to complex mass-casualty and battlefield medical scenarios.

Today, the Balkan Medical Task Force faced a challenging Mass Casualty (MASCAL) scenario, receiving and treating a high number of patients under demanding conditions.

Despite the intensity of the exercise, our multinational team demonstrated professionalism, coordination, and resilience. Through effective teamwork and established procedures, patient flow was managed successfully and mission objectives were achieved.

Another valuable day of training, strengthening our readiness for real-world emergencies.
