Gideon K. Moi
It’s getting messy in Eldoret.

Mid-October: GSU officers move onto a 5-acre Moi family property right next to the Eldoret State Lodge. Guards ordered out, belongings removed, no formal eviction notice. Within days bulldozers, trenches, and a new perimeter wall start going up — expanding the lodge boundary into the land the family says they’ve held title to since 1996.

This week the Environment and Land Court issues a temporary mandatory injunction: GSU and government agents must stop construction, vacate the property, and freeze everything until the main case is heard.

This lands right after Gideon Moi publicly said the political deal with Ruto had collapsed (“he conned me”), after the government is reported to owe the Moi-linked Standard Group about KSh 1.2 billion, and after Ruto went on social media and called him a “billionaire gangster” driven by greed.

Two possible readings:

Calculated pressure — keep Gideon tied up in courts, property fights and corporate headaches so he has less bandwidth to organise in the Rift Valley.
Overreach that could backfire — turning a quiet rival into a more motivated one by handing him a clear grievance and a court win to rally around.
Either way, this is no longer just about five acres. It’s about control of political space in the Rift ahead of 2027.

What do you see — deliberate neutralisation, or a move that strengthens the very competition it was meant to contain?

Shorter alternative if you want something punchier:

Eldoret land row just escalated.

GSU took over Moi family plot next to State Lodge → construction starts → Court orders them out and freezes everything.

Comes right after Gideon said Ruto “conned” him and Ruto called him a billionaire gangster.

Is this pressure to keep Gideon busy, or is Ruto creating a stronger rival in the Rift?

Curious what you think.

The Work Record That Speaks for Itself – and Why 2027 Needs No Campaign
Charity Kaluki Ngilu’s public service stretches across more than three decades. What follows is not biography. It is the work.
As Member of Parliament for Kitui Central for twenty continuous years (1992–2013), she prioritised community health clinics and water points when constituency development was still thin on the ground.
In 1997 she became the first woman in Kenya to contest the presidency. She campaigned against corruption and for national healing while enduring tear gas, a machete attack, and sustained intimidation. She finished fifth but broke a ceiling that has never been closed again.
As Minister for Health (2003–2007) she drove the expansion of free and heavily subsidised antiretroviral treatment at the height of the HIV/AIDS crisis, opening access that had previously been reserved for the wealthy. She also pushed early conversations on universal health coverage and women’s reproductive health.
As Minister for Water and Irrigation (2008–2013) she expanded water infrastructure and irrigation schemes, with particular attention to arid and semi-arid counties, and strengthened the institutions that manage water services today.
As Cabinet Secretary for Lands, Housing and Urban Development (2013–2015) she led a registry clean-up that recovered more than 125,000 missing land files in Mombasa and Kilifi alone, unlocking title deeds and long-delayed cases for ordinary citizens.
As Governor of Kitui County (2017–2022) the record is concrete:
The Ndengu Revolution shifted farmers from failing maize to drought-resistant green grams, established a processing plant, and moved the county from food-aid dependence to surplus production.
Water projects — solar boreholes, sand dams, earth dams, rock catchments and pipelines — brought clean water closer to over 100,000 residents and supported tens of thousands of livestock.
The Kitui County Health Insurance Scheme enrolled more than 85,000 poor households. Dozens of health centres were constructed or commissioned; Kitui Level 4 Hospital was upgraded; dispensaries were revived.
KICOTEC, the first modern garment factory built by a county government, created hundreds of jobs and, during COVID-19, produced up to 30,000 face masks a day. Leather and food value-addition industries followed.
Free and subsidised tractors reached every ward. Empowerment funds flowed to women, youth and persons with disability.
Environmental bans on charcoal and sand harvesting protected fragile water catchments.
Thousands of infrastructure projects — roads, markets, community facilities — were delivered.
County data later recorded 4,426 infrastructure projects completed during her five-year term.
This is the body of work. It is already known in every ward of Kitui.
As 2027 approaches, her supporters argue that Charity Ngilu does not need to campaign in the conventional sense. The record itself is the campaign. The people who drank the water, sold the ndengu, received the health cover, worked at KICOTEC, and saw their children treated without selling livestock already know what she delivered.
“We have her,” they say.
The coming election will simply confirm whether Kitui still chooses the leader whose work they have already lived.

SHARP BOY MUDAVADI AND THE CEMETERY SAGA THAT GEN Z DON'T KNOW ABOUT!

Many Gen Z Kenyans probably have no idea that Musalia Mudavadi, the man who today presents himself as one of the experienced and sober voices in government, once found himself at the centre of one of Kenya's most extraordinary corruption controversies.

Let me take you back to 2008 and 2009, when the defunct Nairobi City Council decided to purchase land in Athi River for a new public cemetery because the existing burial grounds were running out of space.

The council ended up paying KSh283.2 million for land that government valuers had estimated at approximately KSh24 million, and investigations later established that the property was unsuitable for the intended burial purposes.

Imagine a country where even the dead could not be guaranteed a decent resting place without public money becoming the subject of a massive corruption investigation!

At the time, Mudavadi was Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Local Government, the ministry under which the Nairobi City Council operated, and his name featured prominently in investigations and parliamentary disagreements surrounding the transaction.

Mudavadi denied receiving any money from the deal and maintained that he had pushed for investigations after discovering irregularities, arguing that political opponents were attempting to damage his reputation.

But the scandal itself was real, and investigators established that only KSh110 million reached the original landowner, with substantial amounts ending up in the hands of individuals involved in the transaction including Musalia Mudavadi.

And here is something younger Kenyans may find particularly interesting.

The cemetery scandal has refused to die, because on October 27, 2026, a Nairobi court ruled that eleven accused persons, including former Local Government Permanent Secretary Sammy Kirui, had a case to answer over the controversial transaction.

What fascinates me about Kenyan politics is how politicians can remain prominent for decades, moving between administrations, political alliances and powerful government offices, while entire generations grow up knowing almost nothing about the controversies that shaped their earlier careers.

Gen Z should study Kenya's political history carefully, because many of the people now presenting themselves as the country's experienced leaders were already occupying powerful offices when some of the most notorious public finance scandals were unfolding.

The cemetery saga is a remarkable reminder that Kenya's political memory is often much shorter than the careers of the politicians who govern it.
