C.Tao Chinese Restaurant - Phú Mỹ Hưng

Super excited to see C Tao come to D7, yes they are a chain, and maybe it's not going to be winning any awards for the food. But It's damn consistent, has a really nice menu, and the decor, music, lighting make it an easy choice if you want to grab some light Chinese food.

Menu wise, is has all the things you would expect, from won ton soup, freshly made noodles, dumplings and some really good looking glazed duck, soft shelled crab and fresh soups. Dishes start at 50K and up for appetizers and head north of 180k for the bigger mains.

Now I had planned to go in and order up an array of dishes over the weekend, but after popping in for a quick bite midweek, held off from booking for a second visit as the service really was that terrible.

With that in mind they have just opened in the last few weeks, and after bringing it up with their ops team they did acknowledge they had some work to do.

I'll be back in a month, so fingers crossed that they get into training and deliver a good experience next time.

Reika Izakaya and Skewer
Is a little bit of a gem of a place that came onto our radar around a month ago. Located at 5 Nguyen Dinh Chieu, Dakao D1

Now on the menu, we have your usual skewed and grilled suspects, pork belly, chicken hearts and various other yakitori treats, however it was the really amazing and well thought Japanese pasta section, which I think will really turn heads .

We got stuck into the Salted Egg Carbonara and a good selection of bbq fares and our total bill for 3 was 1.4 million with a few beers and cocktails (which were 241 from 5.30 - 7.30)
So around 450k per head.

Ambiance - think trendy tattoo parlour with cool wall art.
Service - good casual and quick
Food - Great mix of Japanese and fusion cuisines.
Drinks - Great cocktails and beer

Tonight we popped into the newly opened Kebab shack in district 7. It's been a little bit of a struggle to get a portion of their Moroccan lamb kebabs as the last week they have sold out most nights.

But tonight was the night and my god was it worth the wait.

Home-made Turkish bread, slow cooked lamb and we went for the Greek and original versions. One with feta cheese and avocado and the original with salad, red onion, garlic sauce, and we added some of their hot sauce which added a great bit of spice to the flavors.

Located at the BCB garden so a great choice of other foods on offer including the newly opened Kimho food (Korean), Sushi Go, and BCB burgers. All tied together nicely with The BCB beer hut selling 8 craft beers, wine and a new list of cocktails.

Right now they are showing live football on a 14ft screen for the world cup, but seating out the front if you fancy a sport free zone.

Got to go check out Night Cap this weekend, a newly opened cocktail bar just off Calmette street in district 1!
It's on the 2nd floor and the entrance is normally locked, so don't be scared to ring the doorbell for attention, someone will quickly come and let you in.

Upstairs this dimly lit bar fits 7 at the bar, another 8 on benches and has a couple of lounging spots at the back.

Cocktails start from around 170K and has a good mix of classics and some really good signature options like the Duke a well blended mix of bourbon, green chartreuse, cherry liquor, lime and bitters which will set you back 190k.

It's owned and run by Ben and Mimi, who have a great background in the hospo scene so you'll be well looked after.

A really great initiative from the guys and girl's at Saigon motorcycles who have just launched a super affordable kids motorbike helemet just before Christmas!

They have made, manufactured and imported these helmets off their own back, and it would be amazing to wipe the stigma off children wearing helmets in Vietnam by getting a lid for your own kids, your friends or even neighbours kids for Christmas!

1.29 million vnd to save a kids life means you can literally get a priceless gift for under $55.

Not Sure if you've got round to trying out one of the burgers from Madd Roosta yet.. but my oh my it's quite the handful. This bad boy comes in at 190K weighs about half a kilo and has flavours galore injected into every pore.

They have been around a year, but just prior to lockdown had just opened their doors in a three story venue in Bin thanh, with some great views overlooking one of the canals down there.

Great owners, Delicious food and for the size of the thing is a great deal.

Thankfully, our Enforced Hibernation is feeling like it's over at last, and with it Saigon Is definitely starting to get that getting back to business feel about it, We've missed the great eating and drinking in the city, so it feels amazing to be back!

And what better way to kick off a full day of eating then A full English Breakfast.

Now this little tasty treat is being put together in district 7. A long-standing bar is revisiting some of its British classics and revamping them to bring what I think might be the best breakfast in the city!

Now whilst they are trying out a few different ingredients and suppliers, on this plate the black pudding, Sausages and Bacon come from Walker's traditional British food based in Saigon! And my god if you miss proper bacon, and are craving a really top-notch Breakfast sausage you are in for a treat, however, for me it was the black pudding that will blew me away,... Maybe just Maybe the best in the city!

If you want to see what they are up to go to Walkers - https://www.facebook.com/WalkersTBF
Their page has a great selection of British Meaty goods!

One of our little lockdown favorites from a cracking little German restaurant in town Haubis Vietnam.

If you've not had German Food before, expect a lot of sausages, amazing potato salad and Beautifully sweet sauerkraut - which is a fermented cabbage which is a lot nicer then it might sound, in fact down right delicious.

As of this week they are still able to deliver! Check them out at https://www.facebook.com/haubis.vietnam.saigon
