The Hydrant is the new local hang-out spot in White-Bird, Idaho, where quaint meets contemporary. Hammer Down River Excursion’s started in August of 2017, putting people on the river and showing them around the Green Canyon. In early spring of 2018, Hammer Down River Excursions started forming the idea of creating a place for their clients to hang out after their trips once they got off the river.
White Bird, a town of 91 only sported a cafe and a local bar at the time but no place to sit outside and enjoy a beer as the weather got warmer. The Hammer Down office started to slowly change from a small office with minimal furnishing to a place of busy construction.
Homer Brown, the owner of Hammer Down River Excursions, was out front on a warm spring afternoon pouring concrete for the new patio . He went to sit on the hydrant that plainly sits in front of the office and had an epiphany! He ran inside and announced to those working, the patio would be known as The Hydrant. The colors for the business were already red, the mascot was already established out front, and if he could sit at the hydrant to cool down so could anyone! So the nickname The Hydrant was born, and it resembles a spot that not only Hammer Down River Excursion’s clients can come to cool off but anyone who wanders through the small town tucked away underneath the highway.
Hammer Down River Excursion’s received their Beer and Wine license in June of 2018, and offers cold refreshments every day until the patio lights turn off and the music stops. We offer a variety of red and white wines from Lindsay Creek Winery, micro-brews from the McCall Brewery and Mother Earth Brewing, and several other favorite drinks.
“The Hydrant” will be hosting regular events for your enjoyment! Trivia Night on Fridays to test your wits, Dog-Friendly Sundays to provide laid back fun with a special treat for your pup and other events are in the making ! No special event is needed to enjoy the cool nights and patio lights in White Bird so come on down 7 days a week.
Stay tuned for more updates, because if the locals have learned anything from Hammer Down River Excursions and their new addition The Hydrant, things are always getting better.
