Nourish Your Skin

Before I created Indulgence by Nature, I was concerned about what I was putting on my skin even though I thought I was using high quality products, which came with a high price tag.

Then I started to have allergic reactions to just about anything I put on my skin. Both my face and my ears would swell up, get red and itch. I didn’t even know your ears could swell. It was horrible and there were days I didn’t even want to leave the house. What was really strange is, I had never even had sensitive skin before. After getting tested I found out I was allergic to several ingredients that were in most over the counter products. For a long time, I tried to just find products that didn’t have all those horrible hard to pronounce ingredients and I found it very difficult to find ones that were natural but also still cleaned and moisturized, and didn’t cost an arm and leg.

I was also concerned that making my own products would not only be costly, but they would be boring and wouldn’t be as effective.

But then…

After a really bad reaction, I realized that I just couldn’t do it anymore, and if they were affecting me like this I bet there where others that were struggling as well. Plus, did I really want to put these chemicals on my children’s skin. What sort of reactions were they going to start having in the future?

I then set out to create the most nourishing, moisturzing, natural soap for myself, my family, my friends and for anyone else who would like to nourish their skin, with products were they can pronounce all the ingredients, and don’t want to pay an arm and a leg for it. I was shocked to see that quality doesn’t have to mean expensive.

It turns out…

The road was more difficult than I imagined.

There are a lot of oils and butters out there and not all of them are created equal. Many of them have good qualities but actually stripped the skin’s moisture or aren’t absorbed by the skin at all so they just sit on top. Although my allergic reactions stopped almost immediately, some of the soaps left my skin feeling tight and dry. It took several years of research and trial and error to develop a recipe that is both cleansing and will leave your skin feeling soft without harsh chemicals and additives.

In addition, soap should have lather, who wants to wash with a bar of lotion. But lather is usually drying to the skin, so I set out to find ingredients that would boost lather without being drying. It took a lot of trial and error but I think we nailed it!

All of the ingredients in our products have been thoroughly researched and tested to improve the quality of your skin and delight your senses at the same time.

For several years …

I just made products for my family and friends, but then word started getting out and I slowly started to make larger batches and adding different fragrances and products to the line. For example, the body scrub came about when my daughter was suffering from Keratosis (several red bumps) on her upper arms. Our body scrubs use the sugar to exfoliate the skin, while the blend of butters and sugars moisturize stopping future bumps. The results have really been amazing.

When we did release our first products, the response has been pure love from everyone. We are so happy that we have been able to help others with our homemade bath and body products. Thank you to everyone who has let us know how much they enjoy our products and how much they have helped.

We are truly blessed to be able to do something we love doing that has helped so many others as well.
