📢 🗽Back home to my foundation… New York City. Over the next week, I’ll not only be hosting a series of book talks and community gatherings across Queens and Brooklyn, but also reconnecting with the city that shaped me, stretched me, challenged me, and made me who I am today.
💫This trip is deeply personal because it is a full circle moment. From the classrooms of Hillcrest High School to spaces filled with artists, changemakers, students, dreamers, and old friends… I’m coming home with stories, gratitude, and a memoir that carries so much of this city in its bones.
📝 Catch me around NYC this week:
♀️ Wednesday — attending the New York Women’s Foundation Annual Breakfast
🎤 Saturday — book talk at the new Afrikan Poetry Theatre Annex in Queens
🥂 Sunday — intimate book brunch in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn 🏫
🏫 Monday morning — speaking with students at my alma mater, Hillcrest High School
🇭🇹 Monday evening — closing things out celebrating Haitian Flag Day at Lakou Cafe in Brooklyn.
New York raised me and no matter where in the world I’ve traveled or served, this city remains woven deeply into my identity and into the pages of my memoir The World in My Bones: The Diplomat Queens Made. The title itself is a love letter to where I come from and the foundation that helped shape my journey.
I’d also love to do more events in other boroughs, so I’ll definitely be looking at planning an encore NYC trip later this summer. If anyone has collaboration ideas, venue suggestions, community spaces, schools, bookstores, cultural hubs, podcasts, or creative event concepts, please feel free to reach out. I’m very open to building something beautiful together. ✨
Hope to see my fellow New Yorkers over the coming week. Pleasw help spread the word and let’s reconnect. ❤️
