In just a few weeks, America will celebrate its 250th birthday on July 4th, 2026.

That's 250 years of dreamers, builders, risk-takers, small business owners, tradesmen, farmers, craftsmen, and families building a life they can be proud of.

For Dream Image Paint, we've been fortunate enough to be part of that story for the last 10 full years, and we're already rolling through year 11.

🎨🧼 πŸ’¦THE REAL BRUSH TEST STARTS AT THE SINK. πŸ§ΌπŸŽ¨πŸ’¦

Anybody can make a brush look good on Job #1.
The real question is... what does it look like after Job #5?

That's why I always reserve judgment until I've put a brush through multiple projects. By then, the honeymoon phase is over. You can start seeing what it's really made of:

βœ”οΈ Do the bristles keep their shape?
βœ”οΈ Are the tips still straight?
βœ”οΈ Does it clean out easily?
βœ”οΈ Is it starting to fan out and fray?
βœ”οΈ Does it still cut a sharp line like it did on Day 1?

Today I'm washing out the new limited-edition Purdy Spirex after putting it through about 5 jobs, and honestly, that's where a brush earns its place in the rotation.

One thing that caught my attention about the Spirex is the new spiral filament technology Purdy developed. They claim it delivers a smoother finish, easier cleanability, and up to 50% more coverage compared to their XL series when used with premium paints. It's also designed as an all-around workhorse for paints and stains while maintaining precision on cut-ins.

But marketing is marketing.

Around here, brushes and paint products don't get judged by the box, the label, or the sales pitch.

They get judged after they've been put through real jobs, real production, and real cleanups.

The wash sink tells the truth.

That's where you find out if the bristles hold their shape, if the tips stay sharp, and if the product is built for the long haul or just looks good on the shelf.

One thing worth mentioning is that the Spirex is definitely on the stiffer side of the spectrum, which really comes down to painter preference. Some painters love that extra stiffness and control, while others prefer a softer brush with a little more flex.

Personally, I like having both in the arsenal. Sometimes I want a nice stiff brush that holds its shape and gives me that extra control on cut-ins. Other times I reach for a softy that glides a little easier and has a different feel in the hand. Having both options available is never a bad thing when every project throws something different at you.

So far, after about 5 jobs, the bristles are holding their shape, the tips are staying straight, and it has cleaned up surprisingly well as far as getting the paint out of the base. That's the kind of stuff I pay attention to when deciding whether a brush stays in the everyday lineup or gets left on the shelf.

🦎🏑 Today's Side Project: Topanga's Upgrade Is Underway! 🏑🦎

Most people know Dream Image Paint for transforming interior and exterior walls, ceilings, doors and cabinets... but today we're putting some work into a different kind of home improvement project.

We're upgrading Topanga's (who will be our breeding female) terrarium, which will eventually serve as part of our breeding setup next season.

With crested geckos, it's generally best to introduce the male into the female's enclosure when it's breeding time, so we're getting everything ready well ahead of schedule. They will have a beautiful home to pair in romance πŸ’žπŸŒΏβœ¨

Whether it's a customer's home or a gecko habitat, the goal is the same: create an environment that's functional, comfortable, and built to thrive.

I've always enjoyed building things, improving things, and creating spaces that look better than they did yesterday. Today that just happens to involve branches, plants, hides, and a future gecko nursery instead of paint brushes and rollers. πŸ˜‚

A little reminder that growth happens everywhereβ€”not just in business. Sometimes it's in the hobbies, projects, and passions that keep us inspired outside of work.

The funny thing about social media trends is everybody sees the 15-second video...
What they don't see is the work happening behind it.

One second I'm hitting a turnaround jumper at the front door like it's Game 7, the next second I'm back on the move putting Dream Image Paint in front of another neighborhood.

That's the real game. A game we have been a Pro in since 2015!

A lot of people wait for business to come to them.
