A friend had honey bees in the wall of the corn crib and needed them removed. He assisted me by providing a 16" high scaffold and an extra set of hands. After he made the initial cuts I was able to pry off the siding to expose an impressive hive 12" wide by 4 1/2 ft. long. The bees were not happy to greet us and they definitely let us know about it.

Moved a hive from a double small box to a full size hive body. They were very cooperative and the move did not take long.

One of the joys of beekeeping is saving bees. Tonight I went to Pekin Hardwood and rescued a small hive of bees that had decided to make their home under a soffit. I was able to get the queen into my hive body and am hoping the remaining bees follow her inside as it gets dark. My grandson was quite interested to see the wax they had built and the eggs that were in it.

Today I have green beans, kale, zucchini and heirloom tomatoes as well as honey, herbs and cut flowers. The stand will be open from 9am to 8 pm.
