The Cookie Table is a beloved wedding tradition with deep roots in Western Pennsylvania, shaped by European Catholic immigrants who settled in the area’s industrial communities. The custom grew in popularity during the Great Depression, when families helped cut wedding costs by creating a generous spread of homemade cookies instead of relying solely on an expensive cake. Traditionally baked by the bride’s mother and relatives, these old-world cookies were both a labor of love and a way to honor cultural heritage. Today, the Cookie Table lives on as a sweet symbol of family, tradition, and community.
