Established in 2005, the Tehachapi Wine and Cattle Company became the first vineyard and tasting room to serve the Tehachapi Mountain region. Fast forward to the year 2021, after receiving the American Viticultural Area (AVA) designation of “Tehachapi Mountains” (effective December 21, 2020), our wine growing region became official and will be forever recognized as the "Tehachapi Mountains." Owner
s Mike Van Atta and Beth Hamilton have turned this rural and rustic country haven into a local favorite establishment that has produced many award-winning wines and garnered a loyal customer following. The estate is planted with the Primitivo wine grape which has known origins beginning in Croatia and subsequently became a popular vine in the 1700’s when it was brought across the Adriatic Sea to the southern coast of Italy. There it flourished and became a staple wine, especially in the Puglia region. In the early 19th Century, Primitivo was introduced to the United States, under the name Zinfandel. See https://www.masterclass.com/articles/learn-about-primitivo-wine-grape-history-characteristics-and-pairings for reference and more info on the history of our beloved Primitivo grapes. Tehachapi Wine and Cattle Company has recently expanded to include a full kitchen with a revolving menu that complements our wines and satisfies those comfort food cravings. Items include local meats smoked on site and made to order charcuterie with the freshest ingredients. Mike and Beth have continued to support local musicians by offering live music every weekend at the tasting room, producing large scale summer concerts on the vineyard property, and providing intimate live music experiences for their guests. Come see us in the tasting room where our friendly and knowledgeable staff invite you to be a part of local wine history and join the Tehachapi Wine and Cattle Company family!
