The right mentor can shorten your learning curve.

I think about it like walking through snow. If someone has already taken the steps in front of you, you don’t have to guess where to go next.

In business, that matters. Learning from people who’ve built teams, made mistakes, solved problems, and kept growing can save you years of trial and error.

Sometimes one conversation gives you the perspective you need to avoid a costly mistake or move forward with more confidence.

That’s why mentorship, community, and collaboration matter so much to me. Growth gets faster when you’re willing to learn from people who’ve already walked the road.

Margarita Fest gave us a chance to connect with businesses bringing something different to Chicago.

We stopped by Blazed Bakery and spoke with Leslie about the cafe’s Logan Square location, late-night atmosphere, community events, and THC-infused menu.

Beyond the food, Blazed Bakery is creating a space for people to gather through Pilates, yoga, open mic nights, and other events.

That mix of hospitality, community, and creativity is what makes local businesses worth highlighting.

If I could do one thing differently in business, I’d niche down sooner.

Trying to do a little bit of everything can slow your growth. The more focused you become on one market, one skill, one asset class, or one type of client, the faster you can build real expertise.

That focus also helps you build the right community and work with people who fit where you’re going.

There will always be distractions and new opportunities that look interesting. That’s part of business.

But sometimes the best move is to stay focused, cut the noise, and put more effort into the thing you’ve already decided to build.

Before I make a big decision in real estate or business, I ask myself two questions: Am I reacting, or am I responding? And what am I really doing this for?

Those questions help separate fear from facts.

When pressure takes over, it’s easy to jump to the worst-case scenario. But when you slow down and respond with intention, you can look at the real options in front of you.

That shift has helped me make clearer, more confident decisions.

The goal isn’t to remove emotion. It’s to make sure emotion isn’t making the decision for you.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned in business is how much the right community matters.

Growth becomes easier when you’re surrounded by people who want to see each other win. The right environment creates better conversations, stronger relationships, and opportunities to learn from people with skills and experience that complement your own.

You don’t have to build everything alone.

If you’re starting a business, trying to scale, or working toward the next level in your career, pay attention to who you’re around. Find people who are willing to help, share what they know, and bring something different to the table.

The right community can push everyone forward.

Stress can make smart people make bad financial decisions.

I’ve seen homeowners make choices they later regretted because they were overwhelmed and trying to solve everything at once. When you’re in survival mode, clarity is hard to find.

That’s why I believe the first step is to slow things down. Listen. Understand what’s really happening. Look at every available option before making a major move.

Financial pressure creates urgency, but urgency shouldn’t make the decision for you.

The best decisions usually come when you can step out of panic long enough to see the situation clearly.

Had to stop and grab a Michelada from the famous at the Margarita Festival!
