2023 DuMOL Ryan Pinot Noir — Russian River Valley

On the nose:

You can expect notes of ripe cherry, cranberry, and dark wild berries. As the wine opens, earthy notes of truffle, tea leaf, and spice begin to emerge, giving the wine considerable depth. These aromas are followed by subtle hints of anise, cedar, and mint.

On the palate:

Expect firm yet polished tannins that provide structure without overpowering the fruit. There is enough acidity to keep the wine fresh and balanced, while the French oak contributes subtle notes of vanilla, baking spice, and toast.

All around:

The 2023 DuMOL Ryan is a powerful yet polished Russian River Valley Pinot Noir. This is a serious Pinot that showcases both the richness of the 2023 vintage and the classic savory character of the Russian River Valley.

Caparzo Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2020

On the Nose:
Although still young for a Brunello, this wine already offers impressive complexity. Aromas of ripe black cherry and raspberry lead the way, followed by elegant notes of violet. Subtle hints of cedar, to***co, and spice begin to emerge, giving the bouquet remarkable depth.

On the Palate:
The palate is structured with firm, well-defined tannins and lively acidity that provide excellent balance. Layers of dark fruit are complemented by earthy undertones, leather, and baking spices, leading to a long, persistent finish that showcases the wine’s youthful power.

Overall:
This is a beautifully layered Brunello with tremendous aging potential. While it is enjoyable now—especially with a few hours of decanting—it is still in the early stages of its evolution. With additional time in the cellar, the tannins will soften, the flavors will become more integrated, and the wine will develop even greater complexity over the next 10 to 15 years.

In honor of Fourth of July weekend and BBQ season, here are two outstanding Italian wines from two of Italy’s most prestigious appellations. These age-worthy reds offer very different expressions of their grape varieties and terroir.

The 2019 Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino is made from 100% Sangiovese and hails from the Montalcino region of Tuscany.

The 2020 Pio Cesare Mosconi Barolo is a single-vineyard Barolo made from 100% Nebbiolo sourced from the renowned Mosconi cru in Monforte d’Alba.

Both wines pair beautifully with grilled meats and rich, decadent pasta dishes, making them perfect choices for your Fourth of July celebrations.
