“Don’t take it personally”… yeah, that’s never really worked on me. 🤍
Something about myself that used to feel like a flaw: I take everything personally. When I got a critique, I used to hear it as proof I was doing something wrong - or that there was something wrong with me.
As I’ve gotten older, and especially through running my own business, taking it personally has come to mean something totally different. Something positive. It means I take pride and care in what I do. I’m always looking to improve, and I pay attention to every last detail until I feel confident and proud of the result.
Does that mean I’ve redone a bridal bouquet 5x until it’s just right? Yes.
Does that mean asking other vendors how I can be a better teammate on a couple’s wedding day? Also yes.
That, and a million other things - checking lists over and over, loving open communication about style and aesthetic preferences, and caring deeply about the quality of everything I source for my couples.
Taking things personally can be seen as a flaw. But it’s also, in my opinion, one of my greatest strengths!
