✨ Happy Women’s Equality Day ✨
Today, we celebrate the women who raised their voices, challenged the status quo, and helped pave the way for those who came after them.
In 1913, a women’s suffrage league was organized in Shreveport, joining the movement that would ultimately secure the constitutional right to vote. Just across the river, 161 women in Bossier Parish registered to vote in 1920 following the certification of the 19th Amendment, including women who would go on to become leaders in our communities.
Their work reminds us that progress is rarely handed to us. It is built! One voice, one advocate, and one generation at a time.
Today, the Shreveport Bar Association Women’s Section honors the women who came before us, celebrates the women leading today, and remains committed to empowering the women who will lead tomorrow.
Here’s to the women who opened the door, and to those who continue holding it open for others. ⚖️✨
