How do we source our fruit when we make seasonals like our blackberry gose? We try to partner with minority-owned, organic farms in Washington like Aash Farms. It’s a no-till, regenerative farm in King County serving channels across Seattle including fine dining, institutional clients, markets and food access, truly creating food equity across the city. Aash is known for quality and tending to the land with integrity.

Beyond this, Aash serves as an aggregation partner for 70 sustainable farms, mainly across Western Washington, allowing opportunities for sales, knowledge share, guidance and support for new and underserved farming communities with an emphasis on farming sustainably.

When we reached out to Aash with our idea, we were sure he would bring us the best quality, flavor that would make this beer shine.

For the brew process, we start with brewing our base Gose recipe. Which is a wheat ale brewed with a high level of salt to mimic the local water that this style originates from. Then the ale goes through a sour fermentation. After this sour fermentation is complete, the beer moves on to normal alcohol fermentation. At which point we blend up the 120lbs of Blackberries from Aash Farms and add them directly into the actively fermenting beer. We find adding the berries at this point allows for a complete fermentation while still maintaining the sweet Blackberry flavors that compliment this beer so well.

Blackberries sourced from Hima Nursery, a Certified Organic Farm in Everett, Washington and partner of Aash Farms Aggregation.

This month’s live music with Folklife Sessions brings to the taproom Folklife’s very own, Benjamin Hunter!!! Playing at Cherry St. this Thursday from 7-9PM. Artistic Director of Northwest Folklife, Ben is a Seattle-based creative & cultural entrepreneur and advocate, and an award winning multi-instrumentalist & composer. As co-founder of ventures like Black & Tan Hall, The Hillman City Collaboratory, Community Arts Create, and The Rhapsody Project, he builds artist-led ecosystems that blend performance, placemaking, and cultural equity--redefining how folk traditions scale and evolve in contemporary markets. Through his music, Benjamin attempts to connect his lived experiences and admiration for world music into one musical language, scanning the margins and nucleus alike for stories and intersections where humanity converges.

Big thank you to MBC’s partners, and for bringing live music to the taproom every first Thursday of the month.

Summer’s last stand 😢 - we made a summer seasonal flight for the MBC Fam as a kind farewell to Summer as we soak up as much sun as we can before Fall. On our flight board you’ll find Velvet Coast IPA and Krushed Velvet IPA, both made with our collab Velvet Cake hop blend with the National Black Brewers Association (National Black Brewers Association) and Roy Farms. Next, our crisp Fonio pilsner, We Got Y’all brewed with a climate resilient grain from West Africa. This beer also honors the NB2A and National Black Brewers Day on October 10. Finishing it off with our tart and refreshing Blackberry Gose, a German-style wheat ale. It’s DAMN good!

Check out the newest thing in our taprooms at MBC Cherry St., Woodinville, and Steelheads Alley! We wanted to find a way to share some of our beer and story with you all. We created these postcards featuring some of our favorite pictures by William Munoz and MBC’s Hannah Kim. It was hard to narrow them down so we’re hoping to print more in the future featuring different images.

So how does it work? Simply purchase the postcard, they’re being sold for $5 each, at the bar, write a message and address it, then we’ll cover the mailing and the stamp! There are little mailboxes next to the postcard stand that you can drop your addressed card in. Write home to family, send yourself a postcard for fun, share your experience at MBC with a friend, and more. This is an exciting way for us to connect with people all over. We mail these out once a week! So next time you’re in the taproom, be sure to check em out. Cheers!

How it works:
1. Choose your fav postcard(s) and purchase them at the bar for $5/each
2. Write your message and address it
3. Drop it in our mini mailbox
4. We’ll add the stamp and mail it for you!
