San Diego Babel's core mission is to increase awareness of the TCK experience and uniqueness by facilitating

global connections and local community engagement. SDBabel is an exchange community group of travel, language, culture and art lovers who identify themselves as Third Culture Kids (TCKs) in San Diego; who gather when not traveling the world, are in transition or are relocating or adapting after extensive travel. Our gatherings take place at usually at a local restaurant, bar or cafe owned by a TCK or sponsor. There is usually music playing and we mix and mingle together. Our goal is to have a night-out, with visitors or newbies who moved here recently! HOW IT WORKS

The idea of the group is to learn, practice and also teach (helping those who are learning your native language) and in return you get help from the group (you are helped by others who speak the language you want to practice). This way everyone benefits! When you arrive, just introduce yourself to the group and mingo with those that speak your language or culture of interest to you. It's fun and FREE! You only pay for what you order at the bar. PLEASE REMEMBER TO TIP!. HOW LONG IT LASTS

We get started every other Sunday at 6pm and the group is usually there until at least 10pm, but you can arrive and leave at whatever time you like. Check out the events we have coming up and RSVP. QUESTIONS? If you have any comments, questions, problems, concerns or ideas, just talk to Claudia about it. We will do our best to make sure you have a positive experience! Every visitor is welcomed! Remember, this group is a hobby for us; we run it just for fun, we love it and we hope you will love it too! CONTACT

A cappuccino is a very old beverage, pronounced kapputˈtʃiːno; and comes from Latin Caputium. The brown liquid is an espresso-based coffee drink that originated in Italy and is prepared with steamed milk foam (microfoam). This one is from .

The name comes from the Capuchin friars, you might know one named , referring to the colour of their habits, and in this context referring to the colour of the beverage when milk is added in small portion to dark, brewed coffee (today mostly espresso).

The physical appearance of a modern cappuccino with espresso créma and steamed milk is a result of a long evolution of the drink since approximately the 17th century.

The Viennese bestowed the name "Kapuziner", possibly in the 18th century, on a version that included whipped cream and spices of unknown origin. The Italian cappuccino was unknown outside Italy until the 1930s, and seems to be born out of -style cafés in .

In the US there is a new term the result of efforts by the (morphed from ) and (morphed from ) efforts in US universities. However, when it comes to the language, are still all encompassing and not related.
This new term is not about language. This new term is about gender neutrality. The Spanish language is beautiful and ever expanding. It is important to differentiate. For a language learner what are your thoughts on this?

No fruit added to the dangerously delicious, iconic Bali Hai's Mai Tai! A Shelter Island must. When in town, swing by this vintage Polynesian Dream spot. It first opened in 1955 by Tom Ham — and was named after a song from the musical "South Pacific" — the Bali Hai has been continuously family-owned and operated for the past 60 years. It's currently run by the third generation of the Baumann family.

The recipe for the Mai Tai was created by the Trader Vic's restaurant chain in the late 40s and it's been the same since day one at Bali Hai. A counter over the bar keeps a running tally of how many have been consumed over the years — more than two million have sold to date.

“It’s funny how the world works. When I was 18 and first moved to San Diego I was told all these horror stories about how people went to Mexico and bad things happened. I told myself I would never step foot across the border. But years later a good friend invited me on a bus trip to an orphanage in Mexico and I figured okay, I’ll do a well organized bus trip but never will I ever drive, walk, ride in a cab or veer outside of this bus. And boy did that change.

I fell in love that day. Fell in love with a bunch of little smiles and a purpose bigger than myself. When you find love, purpose and passion excuses become just that, excuses, and suddenly nothing can stop you. Mexico has become a second home to me and the things I swore I would never do (because of fear) I’ve done. If I never got out of my comfort zone and continued to live in fear, I would have never found a fulfillment and joy that was missing in my life.

Where I’m going with this novel is that how ironic is it that the thing I swore I would never do, but now can’t live without, has now been made incredibly difficult. Monthly visits have come to a hault and we have not been able to bring the children the supplies they need, hug them or hold in person events to raise funds for them.

However, what I’ve learned is fear will not slow us down and nothing can stop us from giving these kids a better future.

We’ve adapted what should have been 3 in person Galas into a digital experience. On Thursday, October 29th I invite you all to celebrate the work of CDV from the comfort of your home with A Night in Baja! There are many ways that you can help! Buy a ticket to attend the gala, host a watch party or offer a silent auction donation item.

Join us for a night of fun as we look back on the work we’ve done through the COVID-19 pandemic and help us move forward to help break the vicious cycle of poverty from perpetuating child abandonment ❤️✨”

I don’t claim to be a culinary expert but I’ve always said the main ingredient is “love “
I enjoy cooking for my family and friends !
Never trust a skinny chef they say ... well gotta break or to you they are wrong !
Tonight I’m making traditional Tostadas de lomo for my kids (pork shoulder tostadas )
Home made cooking is one thing I definitely inherited from my Mami Gloria Garcia
I’ve had a recipe book in mind and I pray I get to eventually publish it !
“Rebozos y Recetas “
Recipes wrapped in a story is the title 💕
I just need someone to help me with publishing and getting it together .
I would love other women or men to take a picture in the rebozo and share a recipe along a story of any life experience they wish to share in the book
I’ve had my picture for years .
Thinking this pandemic has been a blessing in disguise for many families getting back in the kitchen and sitting down for a meal together 🙏🏻
