Long bar lines usually are not caused by guests drinking too much—they are caused by a menu that is too complicated for the setup.

The biggest slowdowns are often:

• Too many drink options
• Cocktails with several steps or ingredients
• Not enough bartenders for the guest count

How much alcohol do you actually need for your wedding?

A common starting estimate is:

• About 1–2 drinks per drinking guest, per hour, during the first couple of hours
• Consumption usually slows as the evening continues
• Beer, wine and 1–2 signature cocktails can often provide plenty of variety

Your final shopping list should also consider your guest count, event length, menu, season and how your crowd typically celebrates.

The goal is not to buy every bottle possible—it is to have the right amount for the experience you are planning.
