🍻 100 Beer People Spoke. We Listened.

After 2026 SF Beer Week, we asked for your feedback — and about 100 of you took the time to share thoughtful, detailed responses.

The headline? The experience was overwhelmingly positive. But just as important, you told us where we can improve — and we’re taking that seriously.

In this week’s Brew Deck, we break down:
• What you loved
• What you want more of
• What we’re actively working to improve for 2027

Beer Week works best when it feels like a shared civic project for Bay Area beer — and that only happens when Beer People show up and speak up.

Introducing Beer 39!

Beer Week begins in just 2 days! And, this year Drink Bay Beer is bringing independent, brewery-fresh beer to one of San Francisco’s most iconic destinations: Pier 39.

Eight local breweries will be pouring at eight Pier locations from February 20 through March 1, and it is all connected by one Beer Passport.

Stop in, order a beer, get stamped, and move to the next spot. Taste four and earn an official SF Beer Week tasting glass.

For visitors, it’s an easy introduction to Bay Area craft beer.
For locals, it’s a reason to rediscover the waterfront.
For breweries, it’s a chance to reach new audiences.

That’s Beer Week at its best!

Join us for Beer 39 and experience local beer in a whole new way.

One of the great joys of Beer Week is watching beer from small, independent breweries show up in places you’d never expect. For one incredible week each year, we expand our orbit and get reminded that great beer belongs everywhere. A Michelin-starred dining room. A one-of-a-kind neighborhood pinba...

Label Reveal 👀🍺

East Bay collab #2 is here.

Brewed at , this one’s called Topper, our IPA2015 collab and a nod to the legendary Heady Topper from The Alchemist.

Bold hops. West Coast attitude. East Bay ex*****on.

We had to pay homage to one of the beers that helped shape modern hop culture, and we’re stoked to finally reveal the label.

More details coming soon.
SF Beer Week is almost here. 🍻

LABEL REVEAL!!

IPA 20005 "One Hour IPA" hosted by Brix Factory Brewing

Late last month, the Drink Bay Beer East Bay Chapter gathered at Brix Factory in Oakland with our friends from Country Malt Group and Lallemand to brew IPA 2005 - a beer conceived as a "cover version" of Dogfish Head Brewing's 60 Minute IPA from that era.

As luck would have it, Brix Factory founder, John Gillooly, was brewing at Dogfish Head back then. Here is what he had to say about the project:

"I started at Dogfish Head in 2002, and inherited a really fun portfolio of beers. The one getting the most attention at the time was 90 Minute IPA, a 9% ABV monster packaged in corked 750ml bottles. 60 Minute was definitely a little brother, but it was a neat beer in a style that was nowhere near as dominant as it is today.

When I started at Dogfish, hops were purchased on the spot market and were inconsistent due to supply constraints. I negotiated contracts for the next harvest, so starting late 2002-early 2003, the IPAs were made with a combination of Simcoe and Amarillo, which at the time were very new hops on the market and a real advance from the C-hop-dominated 90's.

An interesting feature of the Dogfish IPAs is that they were brewed with 100% base malt (90s-era IPAs typically featured at least some crystal malt). The base malt I used when I started was Crisp Pale Ale, which I think is an excellent malt, but I didn't think it was appropriate across the whole portfolio (it certainly didn't make sense in Raison D'Etre), so I switched to Great Western 2-row. 3 months into the switch, Great Western came to me to warn that the upcoming crop year was s**t - prices were going up a bunch and protein levels were going to be difficult. After evaluating all my options, I secured a bulk supply of French Pilsner malt as our base.

Simcoe, Amarillo, French Pilsner malt - and an English Ale yeast - that's what I left Dogfish in 2004, and that's the beer I'll be reprising for IPA 2005."

🍻 New post up on The Brew Deck!
Building a Beer Mecca, Week After Week

What does it take to build a beer community that lasts? In this issue, we spotlight Sonoma County — where everyday champions, institutions, and beer lovers have helped nurture a deeply rooted beer culture.

This is more than a beer scene — it’s a model for how communities can grow, collaborate, and support small businesses that matter.

Let’s talk about how we can bring these lessons home, all over the Bay Area!

Sonoma County Models a Community-Grounded, Self-Renewing Beer Economy With FeBREWary underway and Beer Week on the horizon, Sonoma County’s beer advocates are once again showing us how thriving beer communities are built: slowly, deliberately, and together.
