PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FROM MAYOR DAVE LIGHT
May 18, 2022
Summer is quickly approaching, and 4th of July will be here before we know it. We are all enjoying the warmer weather and gearing up for graduation parties, family picnics and summer outings with our families. The traditional 4th of July Parade sponsored by the Lion’s Club will take place on Monday, July 4th at 10:30 a.m. The fireworks display will begin at dusk that same evening.
Fireworks are a tradition and huge part of celebrating our independence. Professional firework displays are impressive, but they don’t come cheap. As with just about everything else, there are product shortages in the fireworks industry. Due to the shortages, the minimum display this year is $15,000. The City of Norwalk has been provided with a June 17th deadline to raise the $15,000 for a show. In 2020 and 2021 residents, businesses and civic organizations donated over $27,000 each year for fireworks. Wow, unbelievable!
Mayor Light said “Norwalk is beyond fortunate to have such amazing civic organizations, top-notch businesses and residents who have come forward year after year to fund the fireworks and celebrate our country’s independence. Their generosity is truly amazing! As in the past, I will not solicit anyone for funds. I would rather donations come from the heart. If you, your family, or business would like to contribute to help keep this tradition alive please consider doing so. I believe we can make this happen again.”
LET’S BRING THIS COMMUNITY TOGETHER AND CELEBRATE OUR INDEPENDENCE! Please consider making whatever contribution you feel comfortable with. Every dollar counts. Donations can be dropped off or mailed to the Huron County Chamber of Commerce, 10 W. Main St. Norwalk. ALL Checks Payable to: VFW Post 2743.
