I usually don't write in the first person on the page like this, but this is a special instance. Unfortunately I received the terrible news today from The Secret Theatre owner, that the building's owner leased the Little Theatre space to a new tenant out from under us. This means that The Queen's Secret Improv Club is currently without a home starting JUNE 1st. I am, to say the least, very dismayed at this turn of events. People are already saying they are sorry to me, but this is not a personal loss so please DON'T be sorry for me. This isn't a business that I profit from, really it's just a lot of work for me. This is really affecting over one hundred regular performers as well as several hundred more per year with all the indie teams that play across all 6 of our nights, so this is much bigger than me at this point.
The initial plan will be to take the summer off to explore other options for a possible home base, or at least a solid interim base. If you have any leads in this area, please let me know. I can tell you I am not looking for a significant downgrade from what we once had, which was pretty good. I may also poll the community to see if there is even enough interest or need for me to justify continuing The QSIC. We exist to serve the entire indie improv community, so that is important to know. Write comments here if you want, but I may send an anonymous survey out at some point which if you take a moment to fill out, will help decide fate.
I sincerely want to thank everyone who has and is investing their time and work into this crazy idea that really kinda was working. Thanks to Mike Short and Anthony Apodaca for partnering and making Blind Tiger a success here, and Derek Dahmann for his work on Sunday nights with Tyro and QIC, and of course to Stefan Wenger for launching an incredibly successful musical program. I think no matter what happens in the end, I can say we were succeeding, but we were cut down by NYC real estate, glutinous landowners, and the unforgiving anti-artist landscape we are, for some reason, allowing this city to become.
I especially want to thank people who really went above and beyond to help run this beast over the last 3 years and without whom I would have drowned and failed long ago, so thank you Athos, Lauren Brickman, Jewel Elizabeth, Nathan Bredeman, all our techs, and our Wednesday night house teams for holding down the jam for a while now.
Much love and be assured I will be working to fix this if possible if it is what the community wants.
SIncerely,
Frank Angelini
