When museums approach us with highly-specialized projects, our experts build bespoke solutions from scratch. Here’s how we’re helping the Clyfford Still Museum create a catalogue raisonné:

The Clyfford Still Museum stewards roughly 93% of Clyfford Still’s creations, and stores over 200 rolled oil paintings in a dedicated unit at UOVO Denver. The collection is owned by the City and County of Denver, and the Museum’s team is currently in the process of creating a catalogue raisonné – a comprehensive document that details all of an artist’s known works. For this project, each canvas is individually unrolled, stretched, photographed, studied and documented – then eventually returned to safe, climate-controlled storage. A project with highly-specialized needs like this one requires precise ex*****on, so our experts are present every step of the way to assist the Museum team in carefully unrolling and re-rolling each canvas. Our Colorado crate shop worked with the Museum’s chief conservator to fabricate custom 12x16 ft. tables that could display these large-scale canvases, as well as rotate, lift off their base, and eventually stand vertically for photography.
