Every year I get to play the School of American Ballet Workshop, something special happens — I look around the orchestra pit and see familiar faces, see incredible young dancers taking their next steps toward professional life, and remember that I was once a first-year undergrad at Juilliard always excited to perform on a fun large scale production.
From section player to principal viola, SAB has been a constant thread through my musical life — and honestly, one of the highlights of my musical year! There’s something deeply moving about being part of a production that exists entirely to prepare young artists for the road ahead. The training, the artistry, the dedication these dancers bring? Exceptional, year after year.
