The Wally Gingers Orchestra delights audiences with Wally's original arrangements of popular big band artists such as Glen Miller, The Dorsey Brothers, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Woody Herman and more! We also play many crooner hits by Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Doris Day, Bobby Vinton and others.

We are deeply saddened to share the passing of our dear friend, Richard “Mac” McCoy.

Mac was our lead saxophonist for many years with The Wally Gingers Orchestra. He brought not only his wonderful musicianship, but also his great humor, endless stories, and warm personality to every performance. He was truly a joy to be around and will be greatly missed by all of us.

We hold his family close in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Richard E. (Mac) McCoy, age 87, of Uniontown, PA, went to be with his Father on Saturday, April 25, 2026 in the Uniontown Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was born July 27, 1938 in Turtle Creek, PA, son of the late James E. and Anna Grace Rynd McCoy.

Richard graduated from Turtle Creek High School Class of 1956. He also graduated from West Virginia University with a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Music Education. He began his teaching career in 1960 at South Union High School which later became Laurel Highlands High School. He was Director of Bands at LH High School. Richard wrote the Alma Mater for the school. He retired from teaching in 1997. Mac was interim Band Director from 2000-2008. He was honored with the title of Director of Band Emeritus and announcer for LH High School Marching Band. He was assistant band director at Uniontown High School for five years.

Richard was past president of Fayette County Music Educators and adjudicator for Carnegie Mellon Honors Band Programs. He sang in the Uniontown Chorale. He played numerous instruments in the VFW Post 47 Band, Sammy Bill Orchestra, Scottdale Community Band, Wally Gingers Band, Local 596 Uniontown Musical Society and the WVU Alumnae Band. He also played for different musicals in the area.

Richard served as choir director for Central Christian Church for thirty years. He was an active member of Third Presbyterian Church where he served as choir director from 1997 to present and the Director of the Bell Choir. Dick enjoyed working visitations and funerals for the Ferguson Funeral Home form many years.

Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Jeanne, his six children, Rick, Jeff (Barbie), Randy, Jon (Ginger) of Florida, Rene (Eric) Rockwell of Ohio, and Jody; Grandchildren, Jeremy (Joanne) McCoy, Kellie McCoy, Jamie Rockwell, Natalie Rockwell, Ian Rockwell, Nicole (Corrin) Clayton Anthony McCoy, Felicia McCoy, Gracie Lewis, Joshua McCoy, Kayla Rohm (Mike) Rohm and great grandchildren, Lucas Clayton, Griffin Clayton, Maddie Jacobs, Christopher Jacobs, Winry Rohm, Sebastian Rohm and Beatrix Rohm.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the ANDREW D. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORIES, INC., 80 Morgantown St., Uniontown, PA, where family and friends will be received on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 and Thursday, April 30, 2026 from 2 until 4 PM and 6 until 8 PM. Visitation will continue on Friday, May 1, 2026 at Third Presbyterian Church from 10 until 11 AM the hour of service with Rev. Patrick Ewing officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Uniontown, PA.

Donations can be made to the Third Presbyterian Church in memory of Richard.

South Union Volunteer Fire Company will conduct a service Thursday at 6:30 PM.
