The Bastet Quartet Reading Series pulls its name from the feline-faced war goddess of the Egyptian delta region. Pyramid analogies aside, Bastet's dichotomy between mother-figure/force of destruction, godly entity/domestic pet, and antiquity/modernity all combine to form an incredibly complex whole, much like our dear 901. At each reading, we feature four blossoming local writers whose voices refl

ect that distinctly and resoundingly Memphian complexity. We also feature the work of local artists alongside our readers. While readers are selected via submission only, we provide an intimate, informal, and overall celebratory atmosphere -- a night of words and wine -- for all patrons and devotees of the goddess.
