Tiki Bob has arrived! I finally have the colors & technique down so I can easily duplicate it.
Inspired by the original Tiki Bob cocktail mug first sold in 1955. Each hand crafted straw is made from 12mm Bone White borosilicate tubing.
Please allow at least 2 weeks for production & shipping.

I spent the weekend making more Bobs. I have the colors & technique down that I can comfortably replicate the traditional looking brown on white design. This means that I can make them available to pre order! The different colored ones I will either put them in the online store in the “custom straws” section or, just hold onto until my next vending event. If you see something you like in this post, please send me a DM. I will announce the availability in the next day or two. Stay tuned!

I made a couple of Bobs before AZTO that sold immediately. I haven’t been ready to put them in the online store until I knew I could repeat the design. Still working on it but these ones are available now.

Today, I’ve got a pungent, papaya-laced treat from Shannon Mustipher’s () “Tiki: Modern Tropical Cocktails” - the Plank Walk! I picked up a tub of frozen papaya purée to try out a handful of unusual recipes I’ve encountered recently, and I’ve found that I really dig papaya. Its uniquely earthy musk just works so well with agave and cane spirits! ⛵️🏴‍☠️

For this one, Mustipher recommends using Pusser’s Gunpowder Proof or her own personal “Navy Rum Blend” consisting of 5 parts Demerara Rum, 1 Part Rhum Agricole Ambre, and 1 Part overproof Jamaican Rum. As nice as that definitely is, I was only making one drink and didn’t feel like dividing 2oz by 7 so I used a sample bottle of Planteray Mister Fogg No. 1 a buddy gave me. Much like another overproof Planteray offering, It’s f*cking delicious. As I said before, I purchased some papaya purée, and for this spec, I spent all of 2 minutes turning some into a syrup - thanks to the simple recipe that I’ve shared previously from the appendix of Death & Co’s Welcome Home. The remaining ingredients are pretty standard fare for tiki drinks, no big surprises - except my wife’s face when she finds out I lit up another lime shell (*safely*) in the apartment… The more time I spend with the “more involved” cocktails from Tiki, the more I appreciate entire book. If you dig papaya and can get your hands on some, this one is worth walking the plank for!

Passion Grove Swizzle

I have been on a pineapple juicing kick recently, enjoying the depth of flavor and great foam that fresh pineapple juice provides over canned or bottled. As such, this felt like the perfect drink to whip up on a warm day.

This one is pretty light and refreshing, combining fresh pineapple juice with falernum and passion fruit, along with a light rum and just a bit of Jamaican funk. The perfect flavor combination liven up a drink that might otherwise feel flat from one full ounce of pineapple juice.

I made one round of these, followed by another. And then another! That’s how popular they were. This one is definitely staying on the summer drink menu going forward.

- 3/4 oz. lemon juice
- 1/2 oz. passion fruit syrup
- 1 oz fresh pineapple juice
- 1/2 oz. falernum, preferably strong in ginger. (I used homemade).
- 1 and 1/4 ounce flavorful white rum (I used Denizen White)
- 3/4 oz. Jamaican overproof (used Rum Bar OP)

Build in a Collins or zombie glass. Fill most of the way up with crushed or pebble ice and use a swizzle stick or bar spoon to swizzle until your glass is frosty. Top with crushed ice. Garnish festively and enjoy!
