Today we remember David Hockney, whose creativity left an indelible mark on Los Angeles.

In 1988, Hockney transformed the bottom of our Tropicana Pool into a work of art, painting the now-iconic blue wave design that continues to captivate guests more than three decades later. What began as a temporary artistic gesture became one of the most recognizable hotel pools in the world.

As we honor his passing, we are grateful to have this lasting piece of his legacy woven into the history of our hotel.

For nearly a century, these halls have witnessed first kisses, film deals, afterparties, heartbreaks, comebacks, and moments that became part of Hollywood folklore.⁠
