In 2015, the United Nations created a set of objectives that speak to the most extreme issues facing humanity: the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals. The UN describes these as “a call to action by all countries – poor, rich and middle-income–to promote prosperity while protecting the planet.”
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This vision recognizes “that ending poverty must go hand-in-hand with strategies that build economic growth and address a range of social needs including education, health, social protection, and job opportunities, while tackling climate change and environmental protection”- all by the year 2030.
It is now 2020, five years into this fifteen-year call to action, which leaves us in the decade stretch. Change backed by a critical mass of all levels needs to happen.

As part of the Research and Forecasting work with the Global Wellness Institute, a thought-provoking interview was conducted with Nicola Finley, MD, and integrative medicine practitioner at Canyon Ranch, Tucson. According to Dr. Finley, many people of color have not felt seen, heard or valued by the wellness industry, and the spa and wellness industry has neglected to embrace the large and profitable market represented by Black and Latina women. Thank you to our friends at CreativeVisions.org for sharing more on their youth education program, "Rock Your World", which helps educators engage students in the use of creative media to take informed action about the issues they care about. Rock Your World guides, supports and amplifies young change makers around the world, and is now preparing Home Enrichment Kits for the age of COVID.

Kits include weekly explorations and activities for your student or child to engage in throughout the academic year. Each lesson bundle is designed for easy implementation for parents, educators and/or youth leaders and will contain a student-driven exploration of human rights and provide the opportunity for students to share their learning with the Rock Your Rights youth network.

In partnership with Milken Institute, The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH), we took part in a virtual convening: "COVID-19 and the Brain: Studying the Long-Term Impact to Advance Science."
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The COVID-19 pandemic is hitting some groups especially hard. This discussion was poised to increase our understanding of the less known - the COVID-19 pandemic impact on pregnant women and their children - thanks to a major 10-year research project currently in its pilot stage.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In our lifetimes, the COVID-19 pandemic is unprecedented - but the science we can bring to bear on it is also without precedent. Thanks to that science, we will come out the other end of this crisis with immensely greater understanding not only of viral infections and their treatment, but also of how to address the many health and social challenges that accompany these kinds of unexpected health threats that impact our well-being.
