Not the news we were hoping.... but noticed the newest bull calf hadn't been coming up with momma last night or today. So this afternoon I went to do a check.... found him down by the creek, not much left. He was healthy, active, and doing good. We think coyotes got him. Momma would tuck him down in the trees and leave him. I guess she thought she had him hid good. 🥺

It's been a rough year with cattle. We nearly lost 3 calves with the heat, a cow with summer pneumonia we've been battling, and now officially lost the first calf after many many years of never having issues. I hope 2027 calving treats us better. We still have 3 more mommas to go this fall/winter... so send prayers!

We got Marshmallows testing back. He came back homozygous, red base, but carries two copies of dilution, so he will always pass a red allele and one copy of Dh!

He also came back chondro NEGATIVE. His age is unknown, but based on horn growth, we think he is 8 to 10 months of age. A photo of him next to our 1.5 month old heifer.

He will be available at the Scottish Highland Cattle Roundup. He is skittish, and hasn't had human exposure.

She was an impulse purchase at the Spring HHCA sale. 🙃

She came in the ring and I looked at Josh and said "I want her." 🥹 She went so cheap in my opinion that I couldn't pass her up. Never bought an auction cow that we knew nothing about!

Best impulse purchase and I doubt we ever get that lucky again! 🥰 She is the sweetest, an absolute doll. We discovered after the purchase she was fully halter trained, stands tied and for baths. Does anything you ask! And bred to an AHCA bull for a Dec/Jan calf. She is calm, easy going, and become a favorite quickly.

We love you Eve girl. 🫶

Heart Bar Highlands consignment #6 for the Scottish Highland Cattle Roundup in Bulter MO at Mo-Kan Livestock on Oct 24th!

-Marshmallow-

Marshmallow is a small young bull calf. He was part of the herd dispersal, and unknown age. Per horn growth, we believe him to be around 8 to 10 months old. However, he is very tiny, (photo of him next to our red 1.5 month old heifer). We have sent off testing for Chondro status which will be provided on Oct 24th.

Marshmallow is very timid and skittish due to very limited people exposure. He has not been handled and unsure of his surroundings. We believe in a group of tame, calm cattle, he would eventually mellow out. He is blind in his right eye due to we believe untreated pink eye from a long time ago. He has lots of curly hair, and the cutest ears! In the right program, we believe he would come around.

Tilly is a young, 3 year old white heifer from the herd dispersal. She is petite, with a beautiful set of horns and lots of hair! Tilly is shy and timid, but curious. She is a follower within the group, so in a group of tame cattle, she would come around tremendously. She has had limited human exposure and unsure of people. I think given time and provided with slow approaches, she would come around.

Tilly has been exposed to our Dun Canadian Import bull, AHCA #66206 since the 1st of Aug and will remain with the bull till Oct 24th. High chances for a white or silver calf next summer from them. ✨️

-Regina-

Regina, a dun cow out of the herd dispersal, was also solely a pasture cow. She currently has a silver heifer at her side that will be weaned and pulled before Oct 24th. Per previous farm she is around 5 years old, however, we have her listed age as unknown.

Regina is not a pet and has had limited human exposure. She prefers to be left unbothered in the pasture. She is attentive of her calf and a protective Dam. She has a beautiful build, good udder suspension, and good hooves. Regina is alert, and timid but curious of her surroundings.

She has been exposed to our Dun Canadian Import bull, AHCA #66206 since the 1st of Aug and will remain with the bull till Oct 24th. Good chance of a flashy calf next summer from them!
