You can be aware of your strengths and what you need to develop. But awareness alone won't change anything. You need education, training, and practice. Showing up and doing the work, not just watching it, is how real behavior change happens.

One of our course members, Cristina, emailed us last month with something that made my whole day.

She’d wanted a Chief of Staff position for a while, but she kept talking herself out of applying. Her inner voice told her it was too much, she wasn’t qualified enough, who was she to think she could do it.

Then, in her words: “I heard Joan’s voice telling me to be brave, be bold, and Red Lipstick ON!” So at 9:45 at night, in her pajamas, she sat down, rewrote her resume, and submitted it within the hour.

She hadn’t heard back yet when she wrote to us. But she already knew something had shifted. That’s what this course is actually built for, not a guaranteed outcome, but the courage to stop eliminating yourself before you even get the chance.

If you’ve been sitting on something you’re afraid to go after, this might be your sign.

Putting on my red lipstick and dance shoes after a 10 hour workday. I headed to the Fred Astaire dance studio by my house where I have been taking dance lessons for the past two months, one day a week.

My initial reason for starting the dance classes was to prepare myself for partner dancing at our big Gala at our Conference for Administrative Excellence in Las Vegas starting October 20.

What I have discovered is that moving my body at the end of the day has been a de-stressor and invigorates new energy so I can enjoy the rest of my evening.

Other benefits have included getting my cardio up, which is a necessity. I enjoy the social interaction as well. I’ve always loved dancing but never focused on dances like Salsa and Rumba. The other benefit is it’s challenging my brain. I have to concentrate. I have to think and learn how to follow someone else’s lead.

This is a lesson for all of us that when we explore something with one goal in mind, we never know what other wonderful benefits we will derive and who we will meet along the way. And you are never too old to rock away!

I’m grateful for the fabulous instructors at the Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Summerlin, NV.

I get asked all the time if Red Lipstick ON! is really for every age. Here’s my honest answer. It looks different at every age, and that’s exactly the point.

At 30, it might look like finally trusting your own opinion in a room full of louder voices. At 50, it might look like starting over after a chapter you didn’t choose. At 70, it might look like refusing to shrink just because the calendar says you should.

The lipstick isn’t the point. The decision behind it is. The decision to show up as yourself, right where you are, at whatever age you are.

Which season are you in right now? Tell me in the comments, I read every one.

Why did I write this book, and why now? I get this question a lot, so today I’m answering it on video.

The short version: I spent years watching capable women, women running teams, running households, running their own businesses, quietly stop showing up for themselves. I did it too, more than once. This book came out of finally deciding that had to change, for me and for the women I talk to every single day.

I’ve also realized something this year. I’ve been so deep in the work of Office Dynamics that I haven’t been showing up here the way I want to for Red Lipstick ON!. That’s changing now. You’re going to hear a lot more from me, not just about the book, but about the real, unfiltered version of living this out.

Watch the video, and let me know, what made you pick this book up in the first place?

Are you collaborating or just working together? We often talk about teamwork and collaboration as though they mean the same thing. They don’t. There’s one distinction I think makes the difference very clear. Watch my video and tell me do you see more teamwork or true collaboration in your workplace?
