Hi Everyone! I wanted to show you a special bow today, winner of Amtgard's 2017 "Best of the Best" arts and sciences competition!

It was an honor to compete against such amazing entries, and an even greater honor to have won.

The stats!

Material: Black walnut with hickory backing and hickory inlays

Length: 72"

Draw weight: 33 # @ 28"

It features a center cut, radiused arrow shelf for accuracy, and a trapped back to avaoid having the hickory overpower the walnut.

Hi Guys, Free Man the Bowyer here. I wanted to show my latest bow. I'm proud of this one! It's made of Osage Orange, which is a legendary bow wood, arguably the best in the world (some argue for yew, some for osage). It is very hard to come by. I've been looking for a few months, and finally found enough to make 2 bows.

The Osage Orange starts out bright yellow in color, but will naturally darken to a deep honey brown over the next year or so.

Here are the specs:

Working wood: Osage Orange
Backing: Hickory
Riser, accents, and tip overlays: Bocote
Draw Weight: 35 # @ 28"
Length: 71" AMO
Center-cut arrow shelf
Leather wrapped handle

This bow was a challenge, but FUN!

Purpleheart is a very difficult wood to work with, but beautiful! This is the natural color of the wood, no stain or dye!. It is extremely hard and dense, and taked frever to cut, sand, and shape.

I'm very pleased with how this bow turned out. The color of this bow is amazing, almost the color of wine. She's a good shooter, too!
