A Few Vodka Facts

* Vodka originated either in Poland in the 8th century or Russia in the 9th. 1st distillery dates from 1174.

*It was originally used as medicine, it increases blood flow and has both antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.

*In the middle ages it was used as an ingredient in gunpowder.

*Though sometimes made from potatoes, it's more common to be made from grains or molasses.

*Before Charcoal filtration was developed and wide spread, common filtration methods included felt and river sand.

*It weighs less than water and is the cleanest and clearest distillate. No fat, carbs, sugar, sodium etc. and the lowest calorie count. starting at 64 cal.

*Vodka does expire. It should be used within a year of opening as it will and does spoil if left much longer.

*Smirnoff is the oldest vodka company, started in Moscow in 1864, in 1934 the business moved to the US and has remained a popular brand.

* Absolut introduced the first mass produced flavored vodka, Peppar in 1986.

* Leon Verres makes the 1st and 3rd most expensive vodkas. Billionaire Vodka leading the way at $7.25 million dollars
