All hail this purple goddess! Well structured, silky, and mature, this offering by San Bernabe Vineyard, Reserve Lot Series - Lot 24 is a beautiful representation of a California GSM blend. The wine has multidimensional aromas and flavors, a testament to the winemaker. Violet in color and full in body, this GSM (Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre) blend opens with ripe black fruit and coffee on the nose, that develop into notes of smoke, soil, anise, and a hint of hibiscus. The palate gives way to more ripe, dark berries and figs, as well as hints of Sage, clove and nutmeg. A final sip yielded notes of licorice, chocolate, and a hint of pastry crust. The 2014 vintage is truly delightful to drink now, as it has benefited wonderfully from just a few years of aging.
My pairing: Charbroiled bacon burger, finished with caramelized onions and blue cheese crumbles.
Cheers!!!

Sasseo Primitive 2016, Salento, Italy
14.5% abv

It's important to keep in mind that we have red wine options for the spring and summer months that don't involve sangria. Primitivo, also known as Zinfandel in the United States, is an excellent pairing for smoked or grilled meats as we move into barbecue season.

A deep garnet color in the glass, this Primitivo has a touch of acidity, as well as enough tannin to give the wine aging capabilities without being overpowering. On the nose, there are dark berry and plum notes, as well as notes of anise and hickory. On the palate, flavors of blueberries and plum are accompanied by hints of white pepper, baking spice, mineral and herbal notes, and a slight smokey flavor on the finish. An excellent pairing to complement your grilled meats and the rubs that you season with. A savory introduction to southern Italian wines for under 20$!

"Ca’Rugate San Michele Soave Classico 2016"
Italy, abv 12%

White wines featuring good acidity, as well as stainless steel or minimal oak aging, are always great for the summer time when weather is typically warm. San Michele Soave Classico is a perfect white wine for hot days and summer fare. This wine is made in the Soave region of Northeastern Italy and is 100% Garganega, a Native Italian white grape varietal. San Michele Soave Classico can be served chilled due to its light body, fresh fruit flavors, and crispness.

In the glass, the colors are straw yellow with hints of gold. This wine moves with ease around the glass (an indication of its lighter body) but still produces relatively thick tears upon settling. On the nose, there are pleasant aromas of honeydew melon, pineapple, lemon zest, and subtle floral notes. On the palate, there is a richness that balances the acidity of the wine. The attack is very clean and crisp, opening with citrus notes, particularly orange, that transition to golden apple and ripe pineapple at the mid-palate. The finish is medium in length and accompanied by almond and soft herbal notes, as well as some flavors reminiscent of a mixed fruit cup.

San Michele Soave Classico is a great wine for leisurely sips on a warm day. However, this wine pairs well with lighter food fare such as summer vegetables and shellfish. Some suggested food pairings are as follows:
• Roasted asparagus finished with garlic, lemon, and shaved Parmesan
• Grilled shellfish (like shrimp skewers) or seafood pasta (such as scallop or crab linguini)
• White pizza topped with roasted tomatoes, clams, and pancetta, finished with fresh herbs

San Michele Soave Classico has some oak aging, which drives tertiary flavors in the wine, such as nuttiness.
Cigar pairings should be mild only, (think “Connecticut shade wrappers”) with subtle pepper, sweet, floral, and/or nutty flavors. Ci**rs that are medium or full bodied would overpower the fruitiness and delicate flavors of this light bodied wine.

"Insurrection Red Blend 2015"
Southeastern Australia, 15% abv

Similar to its name, Insurrection is an exciting wine. This red blend features Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon varietals, whose spice, herbal, and fruit characteristics burst forth in this fabulous and fearless wine. In other words, this wine is not for the faint of heart!

Insurrection is a gorgeous garnet color in the glass and takes on a splash of ruby towards the edges. The body is full, coating the glass with a generous red hue upon the first swirl.

Insurrection opens with aromas of clove and to***co, that then lend themselves to notes of chocolate, licorice, and bell pepper, all of which are well defined on the nose. A final evaluation of the nose culminates with aromas of olives and cooked fruit.

On the palate, the mouthfeel is full, yet supple. The tannins are well structured, yet graceful. Insurrection presents with baking spices and pepper notes on the attack, that transition to blackcurrant and hints of milk chocolate on the midpalate. The finish is long and spicy, with soft, dark plum notes.

Insurrection is a robust and sophisticated wine, delivering spicy, fruity, and earthy characteristics that are bold and well-integrated.

Suggested Cigar Pairing: Perdomo Habano Maduro. This cigar has the weight, as well as the spice and sweet notes to pair well with similar qualities in this wine.
