Never know where we will pop up next…. So i took some time off, moved light years away, started a new career, still drinking through life but not always posting it. Crazy how things have changed but loving every minute of life. So traveling today through Alaska and coming up on , saw and just had to stop. If you haven’t experienced this you need to… Incredible beer, amazing food, atmosphere to die for and a backdrop that is just breathtaking.

Never stop exploring!!!

This sour is brewed with cantaloupe and cucumber. Wasn’t sure how much of the cucumber and melon would be present as they aren’t overly dominant flavors but they went along incredibly well with the salinity of the gose and what was more of a subtle sourness. It resulted in a refreshing, extremely enjoyable that was perfect for the hot weather. I only wish I had more than one!

This kettle is brewed with pineapple, orange, coconut and terpenes. The citrus and coconut immediately make their presence known the second you crack the can. Both come through first when it hits the palate with the tart citrus balanced out with the sweet coconut and pineapple. It’s incredibly balanced and refreshing.

I’ve always been a big fan of , and today sampling some of their small batch and small batch select. Their small batch has been out for some time, but the launched in spring of 2019 this was their first permanent addition to their product line since 2006. uses 2 mashbills that they combine with five proprietary yeast strains to produce 10 unique bourbon recipes.
•
•
To create the small batch, they blended 4 of those unique recipes aged 6 & 7 years and bottled it at 90 proof. It pours out a honey color, and gives off oak, citrus, rye spice, cinnamon, a bit of a floral note and caramel on the nose. On the palate the sweet caramel and spices-rye, cinnamon, pepper and nutmeg immediately make their presence known followed by orange zest, leather, corn and vanilla that gets stronger in the long finish.
•
•
The small batch select pours out slightly darker red- copper hue. For this expression they blended recipes from both mashbills and 3 of their yeast strains and also aged a minimum of 6 years then bottled at 104 . Now the spice on this definitely takes front stage on the nose while following with sweet cherry cobbler, caramelized creme brûlée, oak and vanilla with a slight hint of alcohol. It’s so inviting you want to just dive right in. More spice when it hits the palate along with oak, chocolate covered dark cherry, sweet corn, white pepper, oak and vanilla, all of which carry in to the long finish that leaves you yearning for another sip.
•
•
I definitely enjoyed both expressions, the small batch select was a bit more bold in flavor (This is going to be one of my new daily sippers I just didn’t want this magnificent bourbon to end!) but you definitely can’t go wrong with either of these. Highly recommend having both of these in any collection.

Here we are having one of their manhattans featuring 11-year , black walnut bitters and cherries. The flavors of each stood out on their own and at the same time complemented each other incredibly well. Also got some great flavor imparted from the extra aging in the . The on its own was the tastiest I’ve sampled from them I see why it’s gotten a lot of hype. Notes of baking spices, toasted oak, cherry, apple and sweet vanilla- combined with the other ingredients it just hit another level.

Kicking the weekend off with a bottle I picked up while on a visit to in .
•

This is finished in barrels to give it more of a smoothness and bottled at 98 . Pours out a rush reddish-mahogany color, on the nose you get rye spice with sweet brown sugar, pecan, oak and a slight whiff of alcohol on the end. It’s smooth on the palate- caramel up front followed by much more pronounced rye and oak, cinnamon, and cocoa. The finish lingers long, sweet and slightly peppery.
•
•
A fantastic rye that’s definitely worth trying if you run across it, and I’d highly recommend visiting them if you get the chance. The barrel tasting/picking experience where you get to bottle your own is great and Jeff Mattingly and Trish treat you more like family than patrons. To this day this easily still ranks as one of my favorite visits and bonus they have some amazing - and if you go tell them T&A sent you!

When being locked down for so long time doesn’t seem to matter much when it comes time to enjoy a pour, and I’ve been breaking out several bottles that I haven’t had in a while. This Old Scout Single Barrel 13 year old is one of those. I’ve loved this so much and knowing it’s not easy to find I’ve admittedly kind of rationed it out to make it last longer 😂.
•
•
Old Scout is a sourced whiskey. This is not the Single Barrel Select you see on shelves at the stores from TN, rather the harder to find IN MGP product I picked up directly while at a visit to the . It’s bottled although a lower one of 92.8 . It’s got a rich mahogany hue in the color, on the nose dark cherry up front followed by heavy oak, spice, buttery toffee, and vanilla. When it hits the palate the oak and spice are more prominent up front followed by to***co, chocolate, and caramel. The finish is long with a spicy, buttery sweetness. It has a rich depth of flavor yet at the same time is incredibly well balanced.
•
•
I definitely recommend touring their if you ever get the chance and 100% recommend picking up one of these bottles if you’re lucky enough to find one in the wild.
•
•
Do you have any bottle you try to make last longer? Anything new and exciting you’ve tried or revisited during lockdown?

Enjoying with some sampling from . Here trying the entry offering from , their 10 year single malt.
•
•
It’s matured only in seasoned casks and bottled at 40% ABV. This is evident on the fruit forward nose lined with pear, apple, plum, berries and citrus, honeysuckle and ginger. It’s delicate on the palate with more fruit up front followed by toffee, malt and oak. The finish is short, sweet and dry.
•
•
This is a great recommendation for someone wanting to get in to , its light yet still flavorful, well balanced and easy drinking.

A little late night never hurt, and this former is definitely helping end the day on a high note.
•
•
Cracking in to some , a blend of single malt and single grain whiskeys that’s bottled at a healthy 51.4% ABV. It’s blended in the same way as a blended scotch, blending over 100 together aged in , and other barrels to create its flavor.
•
•
On the nose it’s very fruit forward from the sherry right off the bat coupled with vanilla, cocoa, some spice and a faint underlying hint of peat and alcohol. More fruit when it hits the palate- berries, dates, orange accompanied by caramel, vanilla, honey, cinnamon spice, and mimicking the nose there’s a light oak, peat and slight punch of that comes in on the end leaving a sweet, dry, tingly finish.
•
•
Extremely rich and flavorful, it’s no surprise this has won many awards. If you’re looking to get in to Japanese , retailing for around $65 a bottle it’s a great buy and a tasty pour.

Bottled at 116.8 , it is a blend of 6, 8 and 12 year old . Pours out a caramel hue and is bold on the nose with aromas or vanilla, brown sugar, rye and an underlying whiff of alcohol that tingles the nostrils at the end. On the palate it’s big and bold with rye and pepper spice, lots of , caramel and vanilla. The is long, tingly and warm.
•
•
I’m a huge fan of this. Great accomplishment where the flavors definitely jump out and are well pronounced from start to finish while at the same time staying balanced. If you’re a fan of a big that gives you a good punch in the mouth like I am this is a good place to start.

The second you open the can the aroma just invites you in. This New England pours out a hazy orange hue with a fine white head that dissipates quickly. The aroma is filled with juicy orange and tropical fruits, sweet malts and just a slight hop bitterness. It’s extremely refreshing on the palate with more of that tropical fruit- citrus and stone fruit, mango, apricot and melon accompanied by honey and just enough of a hop bitterness to give it a perfect balance. Smooth drinking and low carbonation, never would have guessed this was 8% ABV.
•
•
has hit it out of the park again with this, it follows their other offerings with loads of flavor from start to finish. Just fantastic!
