I was just asked if kids are welcome. Of course! Here is a little cha cha by a child from another studio. :D

Ya'll don't understand!! Half the people in this video were the cool kids I looked up to when I was living in Puerto Rico! :) The main singer, the keyboardist, the guy with the hat (the 3 are brothers), two of the ladies in the back married into my family (one with my uncle)... ah!!! So good to see these guys doing this work. Check out their music if you're looking for new stuff.

Ritchie Ray is one of the greatest salsa musicians from the original salsa generation. Still alive. Here is an arrangement of some classical pieces he had to learn from his education in piano.

I saw this today and had to share! :D

One of the most unhelpful pieces of advice I’ve ever received is:
“Don’t compare yourself to other dancers.”

It’s not bad. It’s just incomplete advice.
Comparison is what humans do.
We compare ourselves to others to learn from childhood.
Whether we like it or not, our brains are wired to notice where we stand relative to the people around us.
Also, most people can't simply decide to stop doing it just because someone says so.

The more useful approach is HOW to compare yourself.

Most people see a dancer who is better than them and immediately make the comparison negative.
“They’re so much better than me.”
But what if instead of using that comparison as a weapon, you used it as a source of inspiration?
What if your first thought became:
“I wonder how they got that good.”

Perhaps they’ve been dancing for ten years and you’ve only been dancing for 1 year.
It could be that they train 6 days a week and you train once per week.
Some dancers invest in private lessons consistently and you only take group lessons.
Others grew up doing ballet, gymnastics, or another dance style and you have no dance experience.
Or they’re simply further down the road than you are.
The dancers who inspire us are often carrying years of practice, mistakes, frustration, training, and repetition that we never got to see.

So if you’re going to compare yourself, at least compare yourself fairly.
And better yet, see if you can turn the comparison into inspiration.
Because comparison doesn’t have to tear you down.
Sometimes it can be the thing that reminds you what’s possible if you keep going, giving you a roadmap for what you can do to be better!
The reason I say this is to remind you that the point of dancing is to have fun!

See you at salsa.

Gentlemen! Looking for a few good men to commit to becoming great dancers.

Looking for new music? Check out “Los Guardiola.” I grew up looking up to these guys (our families were friends, we used to play music together, and the keyboardist's sister married my uncle ;) ) and I’m so glad they’re making a splash in the salsa scene. Let’s hope they go far. This is their third single.
