Hi all- Kathleen here- I'm up in Maine for the summer and this past Sunday I stopped in to see Mrs.Schuman (burns park art teacher until '85). This was the first time I had seen her since I bumped in to her at food and drug 24 years ago. She is in great health and she and her husband live full time in the Bath/Brinswick area. She has a beautiful studio filled with her exceptional wood cut prints which some of you may remember, but she is mostly doing water color paintings now of her lush natural surroundings. She looked almost exactly the same as she did when we were kids: same smile, same kind voice and yes, same long pony tail. She remembered many of the names I mentioned from our class- especially Paul Fine. She shared fond memories from her Burns Park days and loved hearing that she was so well remembered by her students. She wrote an art book a long while back and I have used it regularly in my teaching. It is called "Art From Many Hands". If you check it out you will see many of the art projects we did as kids including photos of Burns Park students from older grades. She has recently put out a second edition with new projects and she gave me a copy. I had a great afternoon with Mrs. Schuman and her husband, which included a superb homemade rhubarb pie and Irish cheese, and I just wanted to share. If you have have the opportunity to meet up with any of our past teachers or classmates, please share on this page. Thanks. I hope everyone is enjoying a wonderful summer.
