About Derek:
Graduate of Tehachapi High School and Bakersfield College
Joined the United States Air Force at age 17
Served our country for 38 years, retiring as a Chief Master Sergeant (CMSgt) and Fire Chief
Served with the Bakersfield City Fire Department from 1982–2009
Has worked with the Kern High School District Regional Occupational Program (ROP) for the past six years
Passionate about education and preparing students for successful careers
Has lived in Kern County for 48 years
Raised his family alongside his wife, Kathy, while serving both our community and our nation
