So we start our new pilot batches on the moons. Mostly the full moons, but sometimes the new moons too - like when we have something yummy we want to toss into th

e carboy and we just can’t wait for the next full moon. Then there’s the times when the moons coincide with another celestial event - like a spring Equinox that coincided with the Worm Moon. That was pretty special.) And in the midst of the 2020 coronavirus pandemic stay-at-home crazy-making-ness - the Full Thunder Moon occured over the 4th of July Weekend... Hmmm... star spangled mead perhaps? That's how reality creeps into the meadery. We’re makin’ mead on the moons. Soon we’ll be doing it where you can come too! 🌕 Tomorrow's Full Moon brings more than just a lunar eclipse.

On August 27 (August 28 in many parts of Europe and Asia), the Full Sturgeon Moon will be accompanied by a Partial Lunar Eclipse, as Earth's shadow briefly crosses the face of the Moon. If you're in the eclipse's visibility path, it's a wonderful opportunity to witness one of the year's most beautiful celestial events.

Tomorrow also marks the Sun's transition from Leo into Virgo. (Note: Aquarius does not move into Pisces—the Moon travels through the zodiac much more quickly than the Sun, while Aquarius and Pisces are constellations/signs rather than moving objects.) Many astrology calendars will also note the Moon's changing sign during this period.

🌑 Tomorrow the Dark Sturgeon Moon arrives!

The New Moon on August 12 marks the beginning of a new lunar cycle and brings the darkest skies of the month—perfect for stargazing and spotting the Milky Way.

Known as the Sturgeon Moon, August's Moon takes its name from the giant sturgeon once plentiful in the Great Lakes and other North American waterways, where these ancient fish were most easily caught during late summer.

Bonus celestial event: This New Moon also aligns with a solar eclipse, making it an especially memorable day for skywatchers. A total solar eclipse will be visible along a narrow path crossing Greenland, Iceland, and northern Spain, while a partial eclipse will be seen across much of Europe, parts of North America, and northwestern Africa.
