A beautiful story.

A little boy, about ten years old, stood barefoot in front of a shoe store window in post-war Austria, 1946. His feet were red from the cold, his eyes fixed on a pair of warm boots behind the glass.

A lady passing by noticed him and asked softly:
— “My dear boy, what are you looking at so intently?”
— “I’m asking God to give me a pair of shoes,” he whispered.

Without another word, she took his small hand and led him into the store.
She asked the clerk for six pairs of warm socks and a basin of hot water.
Then, right there in the back of the shop, she knelt down, took off her gloves, washed his frozen feet, dried them gently, and slipped new socks onto them.

She then bought him the boots he had been dreaming of and handed him the remaining socks. As she smiled and turned to leave, the boy tugged at her sleeve. With tears in his eyes, he asked quietly:
— “Are you God’s wife?”

Sometimes, kindness looks like a miracle — especially to those who need it most.
