In late January, I did something I never thought I’d do. I opened a Facebook account. My friends welcomed me to the 21st century, but the real reason I did it was because I was enrolled in a digital marketing course, and I was about to embark on what has turned out to be one of the most enjoyable learning experiences of my life. My assignment was to run a social media campaign for the best fake business ever, It's Criminal Book & Wine Bar. Over the next twelve weeks, I challenged myself to make my posts as real as possible. I instituted weekly features like What I’m Reading and Wednesday’s Wine of the Week. Each week had a theme, and as the weeks went on, I got better at carrying out that theme throughout the week. I learned that timing is everything on social media, and that book-related posts did well in the morning, and wine-related posts did better later in the day. I also learned that “going dark” for a week on social media kills your engagement rates. I’ve had such a good time coming up with entertaining, engaging, and informing content. Thank you for reading my posts, for all your reactions and comments, and for making this a truly wonderful experience!
