Jazz in Nashville is evolving and we’re proud to be part of that story!

Nashville Women in Jazz is a collective and booking agency representing more than 100 women and gender-expansive jazz musicians by expanding who’s seen, heard, and celebrated in jazz.

Through innovative performances, partnerships, and community initiatives, we’re working to create more visibility, connection, and paid opportunities for artists while making jazz more accessible for everyone.

What started as a grassroots effort has grown into a thriving network of musicians, collaborations, and performances - including our weekly Thursday residency at Urban Cowboy. Our online musician directory also makes it easier than ever to discover, hire, and support local jazz artists!

It’s been a whirlwind of a month since our album release!

We just published a new Substack sharing everything that’s been happening behind the scenes, including what’s next for NWIJ as we continue expanding!

PSA : Our monthly Jazz Jam is this Thursday at Urban Cowboy from 7 - 10pm!

Whether you’re looking to meet other musicians, sit in for the first time, reconnect with old friends, or spark new collaborations, this space is for you. All genders and all experience levels are welcome.

Today we had the honor of performing on WSMV News Channel 4 to promote our new album, Redefining the Standards!

Tune in on July 24th at 2:30pm CST to hear us live on air!

We performed an original song written by Alayna Renae and her late father, Mark Anderson, called “The Trocadero.”

“The Troc” was a historic big-band ballroom that opened in 1917 and welcomed legendary artists including Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, and Ray Noble. Every weekend, people traveled all across Colorado to dance there - including Alayna’s grandparents, who fell in love on its dance floor. The song tells their story while honoring a place where music brought people together through both joyful celebrations and difficult times.

The Trocadero represents an incredible chapter of jazz history, but like much of the era, opportunities for women bandleaders were limited. Today, Nashville Women in Jazz is helping ensure the next chapter includes more women and gender-expansive artists on stages everywhere.

History only survives when we choose to tell its stories, and music is one of the most powerful ways we do that. Every performance has the power to carry forward the stories of the people and places that came before us while creating space for new voices to shape what comes next.

That’s why we’re passionate about making jazz accessible anywhere and everywhere! When more people experience this music, you don’t just hear history, you become part of it. Thanks for being here with us!
