Two stories. One Sheriff. Which one is true?
This week, Sheriff Eric Aden described what happened at Crab Island as a "takeover" and warned that organizers could be held criminally and financially responsible.
He spoke about public safety concerns, disturbances, and the dangers of these large organized gatherings.
But then he also stated:
"Our Marine Unit said that it was just a normal weekend on Crab Island."
So which is it?
Was this an extraordinary public safety event?
Or was it a normal weekend?
Because those are two very different descriptions of the same event.
If it was an extraordinary event, show the numbers: • How many arrests? • How many injuries? • How many incidents were directly connected to the alleged takeover group?
And if it was just a normal weekend, why describe it as a takeover?
What caught my attention most was another statement:
"Public safety is the top priority."
That's an important statement.
Because when the Sheriff's Office becomes aware of an event at Crab Island, it can quickly identify organizers, issue warnings, coordinate public messaging, conduct interviews, and discuss penalties.
Yet some families spend months or years trying to get answers about death investigations.
They wait for records. They wait for evidence. They wait for responses. They wait for accountability.
So I'll ask again:
Was it a dangerous takeover?
Or was it a normal weekend?
Because the public is being told both.
