The Hotel Julian was originally a 4 story structure on the corner of Second and Main in Dubuque, Iowa in 1839. It was named the Waples House, and later renamed. It welcomed guests such as Abraham Lincoln, Buffalo Bill Cody, and Mark Twain. The infamous Al Capone purchased it, and rumor has it many legends surround this elegant hotel. It even has a suite, titled The Al Capone Suite, available for booking! I spoke with the host, and it is believed, Mr. Capone occupied the entire 8th floor, with his many guests, when he was in town. Whispers, footsteps, shadow figures, and even sightings of Al Capone, are said to be experienced by staff and guests. I stayed in a suite, for 2 nights. Although I did feel a definite presence on the 8 th floor, I didn’t get any concrete evidence of ghostly occupants. But, what a beautiful hotel! They also had a traveling Model A automobile group as guests, and I got some great photos! I highly recommend a historical and spooky stay here!!!

Asbury Cemetery in Calloway County 12 miles outside of Murray, KY is one of many legends. It was founded in approximately the early 1700’s, and the first settlers of this region are buried there. Odd markings such as stones for unidentified graves, and pipes protruding from the ground (put there for those perhaps buried alive so that they could breathe and make noises to be unearthed) are numerous. Sightings of odd mists, crying voices, and cold spots are what was reported.
I set out on an early evening excursion to explore this historic cemetery. As I, and my companions, made our way down this secluded dirt road, we met an impass! A small drop off and creek ran right across the road, making it impossible to cross. The facts and legends are left to the imagination I expect, because we were never able to visit the cemetery! If you are out that way, maybe you can park and walk through this creek, to find the hidden cemetery. I hope to go back more prepared next time! 👻

Spirit House, Marinette, WI. A trendy former funeral home you can’t pass by without stopping in for a craft cocktail and “spirits”! The Anderson-Kell Funeral Home occupied this building for six decades, and you can sense it’s ethereal residents around every corner. Thanks to the amazing staff for their fascinating stories and tour. My cousin and I were very successful in gaining evidence of supernatural activity, while enjoying a unique cocktail from their menu!

The Peshtigo Fire Cemetery. Many graves from the identified victims that perished in the Peshtigo fire. Also, a mass grave containing the remains of those unidentified in the same fire. We used the phantom chat device, as well as the K-2 emf detector. The results were phenomenal. So much communication from the chat. Names, emotions, and direction. This cemetery is located next to the Fire Museum in Peshtigo, Wisconsin.

I and my cousin visited the Peshtigo Fire Museum, in Peshtigo, Wisconsin. It reminds us of the greatest recorded loss by fire on October 8, 1871. Ironically the same day as the Great Chicago Fire. Over 800 persons lost their lives in a tornado of wind and flame. Many residents were taken by surprise as they tried to flee to the river to escape the inferno. Those souls shared refuge with hundreds of animals, as they too, fought for survival. By dawn the morning revealed the devastation and loss immense loss of life.
The docent informed us of the hauntings many have experienced in the museum, including an apparition of a small boy, and eerie feelings in the basement as well as the balcony. Employees are reluctant to venture into these areas. We didn’t get any solid evidence in the museum, but the chills in certain areas, and of course a somber feeling, as we examined the many historical articles. I highly recommend a visit to this museum, as it truly portrays the era and the horrible tragedy in Peshtigo.
