Southside Brewery and Cafe is open Tues-Fri 5-10pm, Sat 11-10pm, Sun 11-5pm. Lazy Beach Brewing and Cafe is a small micro brewery located in Corpus Christi Texas. We are not a large brewery, we make small batches and hand deliver every batch. We don’t have a marketing or sales team, and we have no outside investo

rs. We simply make the beer we want to drink, and the beer our friends want to drink. Let us share with you the story about the Coastal Fisherman. An American investment banker was at the pier of a small coastal village when a small boat with just one fisherman docked. Inside the small boat were several large yellow fin tuna. The American complimented the man on the quality of his fish and asked how long it took to catch them. The man replied, “Only a little while.”

The American then asked him why didn’t he stay out longer and catch more fish. The man replied that he had enough to support his family. The American then asked, “But what do you do with the rest of your time?”

The coastal fisherman said, “I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, take siestas with my wife, stroll into the village each evening where I sip wine, and play guitar with my amigos. I have a full and busy life.”

The American scoffed, “I am a Harvard MBA and could help you. You should spend more time fishing and with the proceeds, buy a bigger boat. With the proceeds from the bigger boat, you could buy several boats; eventually you would have a fleet of fishing boats. Instead of selling your catch to a middleman you would sell directly to the processor, eventually opening your own cannery. You would control the product, processing, and distribution. You would need to leave this small coastal fishing village and move to the big city, and eventually New York City, where you will run your expanding enterprise.”

The coastal fisherman asked, “But, how long will this all take?” To which the American replied, “15 – 20 years.”

“But what then?” asked the man. The American laughed and said, “That’s the best part. When the time is right you would sell your company stock to the public and become very rich; you would make millions!”

“Millions – then what, sir?”

The American said, “Then you would retire. Move to a small coastal fishing village where you would sleep late, fish a little, play with your kids, take siestas with your wife, stroll to the village in the evenings where you could sip wine and play your guitar with your amigos.”

Our beginning

September 23, 2010, a small extract homebrew kit arrived at the apartment door. Having no clue how it was done Cory and a group of friends attempted to brew the batch of beer. However we learned from it and ordered another kit. Drew joined us for batch two a few weeks later and something has been fermenting ever since. We continued brewing but it was not until about a year later when things really began to take form. Our beers started to taste better and we started brewing every single Tuesday. This Tuesday night event became so consistent that people just started showing up to “help brew”. While a few did actually help, most came to drink the creations and have a good time. As time past, our knowledge and experience grew and our beers continued to improve. We joined BASH, Corpus Christi’s homebrew club and became active members. The good will, and great knowledge of these local brewers is outstanding and they have helped us in many ways. It is many home brewer’s dream to open a brewery, but as luck would have it I (Cory) married a wonderful women (Jess) who has always pushed for the brewery to happen. She was the one who originally introduced me to good beer, and together we have visited many great breweries and shared many amazing beers. Without her this brewery would not exist. She is the person behind the name Lazy Beach and so much more. It was together that we started saving and planning how to make our dream a reality. Together we blindly jumped in and today it is a reality. It was this fun Tuesday event filled with laughter and great friends that ultimately drove us to start the Brewery. Now we open up our taproom every week to continue the tradition. Sleep late, fish a little, play with your kids, take siestas with your wife, relax and enjoy a beer while you play guitar with your amigos in our small coastal city. Thanks,
Jess and Cory
