On June 19, 1865, more than 250,000 enslaved Black Americans in Texas learned they were finally free. Think about that for a moment. This was more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation had been signed.

Can you imagine the joy? The relief? The hope?

We’re only a few generations removed from that moment in history. Today, we pause to reflect, honor, and give thanks to those not-so-distant ancestors whose strength, sacrifice, and determination helped pave the way for future generations to thrive.

Today, we raise a glass in their honor.
