Can we admit that part of the creative journey is the death of the ego?

Or maybe, before it dies, the ego gets louder.

I’m at a point in my journey where I’m crossing over from needing validation from the people closest to me to understanding something that’s been incredibly hard to accept:

My art, my business, and my passions do not need to be validated by my personal relationships.

And damn, that’s a hard pill to swallow.

Especially for someone who has spent so much of her life begging to be loved, understood, chosen, and seen.

When you’ve lived that way, it’s easy to confuse support with love.

Applause with acceptance.
Someone understanding your vision with someone understanding you.

Social media and entrepreneurship can be scary places because they will expose every place where your ego is still asking permission.

Am I good enough?
Do they see what I see?
Why aren’t they supporting me?
Why doesn’t this person understand what I’m building?
Does my work matter if the people I love don’t validate it?

I’m realizing the answer is simple:

My work does not require their permission to be meaningful.

So I’ve been recalibrating.

I’m separating love from validation.
Relationships from recognition.
My worth from engagement.
My creativity from other people’s capacity to understand it.

And I’m owning my artistic abilities without apologizing for them.

I’ve got things to create. šŸ¬

I thought I’d never find the proof! 🧚

My bestie and in middle school, 2001. We made our Halloween costumes from scratch and were so proud! My poor father drove us around in the freezing cold from house to house while being accosted by high-school boys. 🄓

Needless today, this was the year we hung trick or treating up for good and went straight to trickin’ 🤭 jkjk

Lord help me with my daughter and her inherent ā€˜interests’ Not seen in photo - my platform strappy shoes! šŸ™

Dear Girlies,

For the first time in five years, there will not be a Girlies Getaway in April 2027.
Even typing those words feels surreal.
When Girlies began, I simply hoped to create a weekend where women could step away from the demands of everyday life and reconnect with themselves. I never imagined it would become what it has—a community, a tradition, and for so many of us, a place where lifelong friendships, healing, confidence, and unforgettable memories would take root.

Over the last five years, I’ve watched hundreds of women laugh until they cried, dance without inhibition, celebrate one another, grieve together, find courage, build businesses, discover passions, and remember who they are. Creating space for these moments has been one of the greatest honors of my life.

And because of that impact, I’ve realized something.

Girlies has become bigger than a once-a-year event.

It deserves the time, intention, and vision to evolve into something with an even greater purpose.
Over the next year, I’ll be stepping back from producing the annual retreat to redefine what Girlies is meant to become. I want to create something that not only continues to pour into women, but also gives back in a lasting way—to our community, to meaningful causes, and, if I’m being completely honest, to myself as well.

For years, I’ve poured every ounce of my heart into building this experience because I believed in what it could become. Now, as I continue growing personally and as I watch my daughter grow, I also want to build a life where my work is sustainable, fulfilling, and allows me to be present for the people I love most.

This pause isn’t about walking away.

It’s about building something worthy of the legacy Girlies has already created.

I don’t know exactly what the next chapter looks like yet, and for once, I’m allowing myself the space not to have all the answers. I’m choosing curiosity over urgency, intention over expectation, and trust over timelines.

What I do know is this:
Girlies is not over.
In many ways, I believe it’s only just beginning.
I hope you’ll continue following along as I dream, evolve, manifest, and curate whatever comes next. I promise it will carry the same heart you’ve always known—only with an even deeper purpose and an even greater vision.

Thank you for believing in this idea five years ago. Thank you for every ticket purchased, every hug shared, every dance floor moment, every vulnerable conversation, every photo, every laugh, every tear, and every ounce of magic you’ve helped create.

You have changed my life just as much as I hope Girlies has changed yours.

This isn’t goodbye.

It’s simply the start of a beautiful new chapter.

With all my love,
Kelseyļæ½Director, Girlies Getaway
