ANSWER:

Buried underneath a hospital in France, the University Hospitals of Strasbourg, lies a barrel found in the cellar that dates to 1472! The cellar originally was next to vineyards and when the Black Plague hit the area, the hospital moved out of the town and over the cellar. It has survived two World Wars, fires, and time.

Crafted by the esteemed Chantier Naval Dubourdieu—one of France’s oldest shipyards—these elegant vessels have been a staple of the Bassin since 1800, showcasing exquisite wooden craftsmanship.

Our travels continued at Château Marquis d’Alesme, a Grand Cru Classé estate nestled in the renowned Margaux vineyards. This gem of Bordeaux stands out not only for its prestigious classification but also for its status as a small, independent producer committed to crafting exceptional wines. We were graciously welcomed by General Manager, winemaker, and enologist Marjolaine Maurice de Coninck, who led our group through an insightful tour of the estate's facilities. The day was rounded off with an exquisite wine tasting paired with an incredible lunch, celebrating the artistry and dedication behind each bottle.

✨ We began our next journey with an incredible morning spent with the world-renowned authority on the wines, châteaux, and terroir of Bordeaux, Jane Anson. As a wine critic and journalist, Jane has penned several influential books, most notably "𝐼𝑛𝑠𝑖𝑑𝑒 𝐵𝑜𝑟𝑑𝑒𝑎𝑢𝑥", which stands as an essential guide for wine aficionados and experts alike. Her storytelling captivated us as she wove the rich history of Bordeaux with carefully curated wine pairings from its most significant regions and terroirs. To top it all off, we were thrilled to receive personally signed copies of her work.

In the afternoon, we embarked on a private tour of Bordeaux's city center, guided by the insightful Nicolle Croft. Her passion for the city brought its history to life, enriching our experience.

As the day transitioned into evening, we had the privilege of visiting Château Haut-Bailly. There, we enjoyed an exclusive tour of the estate, exploring its impressive cellars and breathtaking facilities. Dinner was a true delight, beautifully complemented by their iconic red wine. A day like this reminds us why Bordeaux is truly a wine lover’s paradise.
